Bull City Open seeks players, sponsors

The 38th Bull City Open Golf Championship on Aug. 2 at Hillandale Golf Course will be a three-man captain’s-choice format, which is different from the two-day event in prior years.

But the event remains open to the general public, and tournament chairman George Smith is inviting golfers of all skill levels to participate.

Proceeds from the event will help the Bull City Golf Club support charitable organizations, including the John Avery Boys &Girls Club in Durham.

Hendrick Durham Auto Mall, Measurement Incorporated, Kerr Cares for Kids and the Perry, Perry & Perry law firm are among the sponsors for the event, but more sponsors are needed because there are a lot of folks who need help around here, Smith said.

Smith also expressed the need for younger golfers to join the club in order to help offset the members who are getting older.

“We are in desperate need of some young golfers to join the club and take over,” Smith said.

Those interested in joining the club may call Smith at 919-957-4457 and 919-402-3412; James Graham at 919-971-5395; or Bobby McCall at 919-599-0129.

Golfers from other states are expected to play in the tournament, Smith said.
