Ben Griffin and Gina Kim of Chapel Hill, Alaina Yeatts of Durham and twins Jessica and Sarah Spicer of Bahama have been named to the 2013 N.C. boys’ and girls’ All-State Golf Teams by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association and the Carolinas Golf Association.

Thirty boys and thirty girls were named to a total of three all-state teams in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.

All the local golfers except Yeatts were named to first team all state. Yeatts was named second team all state.

The teams honor junior golfers who have had the most success in amateur and junior golf events at the local, state, regional and national levels over the past 12 months.

The boys’ first team was led by Will Blalock of Gastonia, the 2013 N.C. Junior Boys’ Player of the Year. Jenkins, a high school senior, won three junior tournaments in 2013 including the Junior North and South Championship and the Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational. In August, Blalock was selected to represent the Carolinas Golf Association in the Virginias-Carolinas Junior Team Matches.

Also named to the first team were UNC Chapel Hill recruit Griffin of East Chapel Hill High School, Eric Bae of Cary, Thomas Eldridge of Raleigh, William Gordon of Davidson, David Kocher of Charlotte, Tanner Owen of High Point, Doc Redman of Raleigh, William Register of Burlington and Ben Schlottman of Advance.

The girls’ first team was led by Emilia Migliaccio of Cary and Athens Drive High School, the 2013 N.C. Junior Player of the Year. Migliaccio, 14, is a freshman at Athens Drive High School. She finished 2013 with five victories and four second place finishes. Included among her wins were the state individual 4-A high school girls’ championship.

Also named to the first team were the home-schooled Spicer twins of Bahama, both 10th graders, and Kim, a 13-year-old student at Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill. Others on the first team were Victoria Allred of Pfafftown, Jennifer Chang of Cary, Alexis Kershaw of Winston-Salem, Madison Moosa of Charlotte, Cecily Overbey of High Point and Anna Redding of Concord.

Yeatts, a senior at the Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill, was named to the second team. She has signed a national letter of intent to play at UNC Wilmington in the fall.

To be eligible for all-state honors, players must have played in a minimum of five TYGA N.C. rankings events in 2013. The awards were determined by a combination of each player’s scoring differential and the total points earned in the rankings events.

Each of the all-state honorees will be recognized at the N.C. Junior Golf Night Awards Banquet on Feb. 8 at Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines.
