Perez home run lifts Louisville past Durham

Jun. 17, 2014 @ 12:39 AM

The Durham Bulls outhit the Louisville Bats on Monday night yet still found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-1 score in International League baseball.

Felix Perez blasted a two-run home run off Bulls relief pitcher C. J. Riefenhauser in the bottom of the eighth inning lifting the Bats to the win.

Durham starting pitcher Enny Romero threw six strong innings, limiting Louisville to one run on four hits. But the Bulls were unable to push across a run against Louisville starting pitcher David Holmberg who struck out six in his six innings of work.

The Bulls collected six hits and were issued two walks by Holmberg but failed to score.

Louisville took a 1-0 lead off Romero in the sixth inning. Thomas Neal walked and moved to third on a Perez single with one out. Former Bulls outfielder Shelley Duncan drove in the run with a ground ball to second base.

The Bulls tied the game in the top of the eighth inning off Louisville’s bullpen. Hak-Ju Lee doubled to start the rally before Justin Christian walked to put two on with no outs.

Mikie Mahtook grounded into a force out with Christian being forced out at second while Lee moved to third and Mahook was safe at first base.

After Ryan Dennick replaced Curtis Partch on the mound, Cole Figueroa grounded into a force out that allowed Lee to score with the tying run.
