Belnome, Martin, Yates set for All-Star Game

Pacific Coast League President Branch Rickey III knew when he first saw the blueprints for Reno Aces Ballpark back in 2007 that the downtown, riverfront stadium wouldn’t have to wait too long to host the annual Triple-A All-Star game.
Now, he said tonight’s nationally televised game (9:05 p.m., MLB Network) pitting the PCL stars against the best of the International League offers a chance for fans everywhere to share the baseball buzz in the “Biggest Little City in the World.”
Durham’s Vince Belnome will start at third base for the IL, while Bulls pitchers J.D. Martin and Kirby Yates also are on the roster.
“Reno, I’m sorry to say, is still a best-kept secret, especially to our brethren in the International League,” Rickey said.
“Reno does not bring to mind a big city and so there are some people over there thinking, ‘This is going to be interesting,’” he told the Reno Gazette-Journal. “So, for those people who haven’t heard about the stadium or games in Reno, what the fan experience is like, they’re in for a treat.”
The 2014 Triple-A All-Star Game will be played at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on July 16.
