Durham's ’s first trip to Gwinnett this season did not get off to a good start.

The Bulls were held to just four singles by Kameron Loe and three Braves relievers and lost 2-0 to their IL South Division rivals Saturday night at Coolray Field.

It was the second straight game the Bulls didn’t get an extra-base hit, following their 5-1 home loss to Norfolk on Friday.

It was also the second straight hard-luck loss for Durham starter Mike Montgomery (4-3), who gave up one earned run in seven innings in his previous start against Columbus. Montgomery left after a 51-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fifth, and Steve Geltz and Jeff Beliveau combined to pitch 3.1 innings of scoreless relief when the game was resumed.

Ryan Roberts had two of the Bulls’ four hits, while Tim Beckham and Cole Figueroa had the others.

Gwinnett scored in the bottom of the third when Phiip Gosselin tripled and scored on an infield single by Sean Kazmar.

Those two combined for the second run in the fifth when Gosselin walked with two outs and came home on a double by Kazmar.

The Bulls had runners on second and third with two outs in the ffith after singles by Roberts and Figueroa, but Evan Frey flew out in foul territory to end the threat.

Loe (3-2) had appeared in seven games with the Chicago Cubs to start the year before signing with the Braves as a free agent. He gave up three hits and no walks in five innings, striking out two.

The Bulls complete their two-game series with Gwinnett today at 5:05 p.m. Merrill Kelly (2-0, 2.63) will be making his fifth start for Durham since being called up from Double-A Montgomery. He will face David Hale (3-3, 3.75).
