Reynolds, Bats shut down Bulls

Louisville starter Greg Reynolds scattered six hits as the Bats shut down the Durham Bulls 5-1 on Sunday in International League baseball at Louisville Slugger Stadium.
Reynolds (7-0) pitched eight innings, giving up two walks while striking out three. Kevin Whelan, the Bats' third pitcher of the night, finished the ninth without giving up a run after entering with two runners on base to claim his fifth save of the season.
The Bulls' first three batters in the lineup were held hitless in 12 at-bats, while the top five had only two hits among them. Tim Beckham and Jesus Flores led Durham with two hits each.
The Bulls got on the board first in the fourth inning, as Wil Myers singled with one out, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Beckham.
But that was the extent of Durham production, as the Bulls did not have an extra-base hit in the game.
Louisville evened the score in the bottom of the fourth, as Josh Fellhauer, Neftali Soto and Felix Perez each singled to knot the game, but Bulls starter Alex Colome (4-6) settled down to retire the next three batters to escape with the score tied.
The Bats went ahead to stay in the sixth inning with a two-out rally. Perez and Mike Hessman walked, then Denis Phipps doubled to center for a 3-1 lead.
Louisville added a pair of runs in the eighth innning, as Hessman ripped a one-out double before being replaced by pinch runner Jason Donald. Phipps beat out an infield single, then took second as Donald went to third on a throwing error. Emmanuel Burriss singled to right field to drive in both runners.
Myers walked to open the ninth, and Lee Hyde replaced Reynolds on the mound. After Leslie Anderson singled, Whelan took over and retired the next three Durham batters.
