Newest champions: Hurricanes hold off Tar Heels
Miami's rise to the top of the ACC is complete.
The Hurricanes claimed their first ACC Tournament championship Sunday at the Greensboro Coliseum, knocking off North Carolina 87-77.
UNC, meanwhile, was attempting to claim the program's 18th ACC Tournament title.
Shane Larkin posted 28 points and Trey McKinney Jones added 20 for Miami to counter the 28-point effort by UNC's P.J. Hairston.
Now the focus shifts to the NCAA Tournament, where all three Triangle teams will be in action Friday. The Tar Heels (24-10) will face Villanova in the first round in Kansas City, Duke heads to Philadelphia for its opener against Albany and N.C. State has a showdown with Temple in Dayton, Ohio.
