Elon gets shot at No. 7 Duke
No. 7 Duke will stretch its legs against Elon today in Greensboro Coliseum (1 p.m., ESPNU).
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is 52-2 all-time against Southern Conference schools like Elon, which will be hard-pressed to slow down Duke freshman Jabari Parker, who is averaging 22.2 points per game.
And there are the 17.6 points per game that Duke is getting from Rodney Hood. He and Parker are combining for 39.8 points per game, making them the top-scoring duo in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the third-best tandem in the NCAA.
Duke shook off any run rust from an eight-day layoff and beat Eastern Michigan 82-59 on Dec. 28. Parker scored 23 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked a couple of shots. Andre Dawkins had a nice game for Duke, knocking down 6 of 10 of his 3-point attempts toward 20 points. Amile Jefferson scored seven points and snatched a career-high 14 rebounds.
Krzyzewski’s reserves outscored Eastern Michigan’s 34-19, Duke’s Rasheed Sulaimon leading the charge with 13 points.
Eastern Michigan shot 37.5 percent from the field against the Blue Devils, who are allowing just 65.5 points per game ever since Krzyzewski put Tyler Thornton and Josh Hairston in the starting lineup five games ago.
Duke gave up 75.7 points per contest over the first six games of the season.
The Blue Devils lead the ACC in scoring (85.2 ppg.) and field goal percentage (.504).
