Duke volleyball announces four additions to roster
Fresh off its 11th ACC Championship and league-leading 18th NCAA Tournament appearance, the Duke volleyball program and head coach Jolene Nagel have announced the signing of four high school seniors to national letters of intent. The incoming freshman class is set to join the Blue Devils for the 2014 season, Duke’s 16th under Nagel’s guidance.
Duke’s incoming class includes outside hitter Cadie Bates (Temecula, Calif.), setter/defensive specialist Nicole Elattrache (Los Angeles, Calif.), middle blocker Anna Kropf (Overland Park, Kan.) and setter Emma Paradiso (Izmir, Turkey).
“We are very excited to welcome a talented recruiting class for 2014,” said head coach Jolene Nagel. “All four have been very successful on championship high school teams and competed at the highest level nationally in club. This group brings great academic and athletic resumes, and is ready to help Duke enter the national conference expansion era.”

Nagel on Bates: “Cadie is a high-flying, hard-hitting outside hitter who plays with passion. Her upbeat personality and smile brings fun and energy to the court. She has excellent skills and decision-making abilities as an outside hitter. She is very competitive and loves a challenge.”
Los Angeles, Calif. (Harvard-Westlake School)

Nagel on Elattrache: “Nicole is a talented setter and defensive player who holds her own digging the very best hitters. She is small in stature but is a leader on the court and a wonderful teammate. Her setting skill along with her defensive abilities makes her a versatile asset for Duke. Her competitive nature is also exciting to have in the gym.”

Izmir, Turkey (Isikkent School)
Prior to Duke: Four-year letterwinner at Isikkent School in Izmir, Turkey … Team captain for both high school and club teams … Participated in the Turkish Nationals with club team in each of the past six years … As a sophomore, helped club team improve to second in the league and maintained that position the next two seasons.
Personal: Born Emma Paradiso on May 15, 1996 in Konak, Turkey … Daughter of Elvio and Hanne Paradiso … Father is a citizen of Italy, while mother is a citizen of Denmark … Father played professional volleyball in both Italy and Turkey from 1978-2005.
Nagel on Paradiso: “Emma is a talented, smart setter who has been around volleyball her entire life. As a setter, she makes good decisions and has excellent location. She is a supportive teammate and does a great job understanding her hitters and their strengths.”
