NCCU lands MEAC honors

NORFOLK, Va. — N.C. Central had 76 athletes named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Commissioner’s All-Academic Team, which recognizes the academic achievements of the Eagles’ 14 athletic programs during the 2012-13 school year.
The conference honored 886 student-athletes from the 13 member institutions, including sophomores to seniors, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.
Here are the NCCU athletes who were named:

Duke’s Xiao named All-American Scholar
DURHAM — Duke rising sophomore Yi Xiao posted a 3.787 GPA in her first school year and was named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association’s All-American Scholars list for Division I.
The criteria for selection are some of the most stringent in college athletics, requiring a minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
Xiao, a native of Guangzhou, Guangdong, South China, saw action in four tournaments as a rookie for Duke and posted a 74.92 stroke average. She opened her career by tying for 10th place at the Cougar Classic with rounds of 72, 74 and 68 for a total of 214.
