N.C. State football coach Dave Doeren already has the upper hand on Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly in one coaching aspect — salary.
Doeren’s “total pay” with the Wolfpack is $2,212,600 a season. Kelly makes $1,645,867 a season for the Irish, according to a USA Today report released Thursday that lists the pay for 121 college football head coaches. The report also lists the buyout amounts and bonuses for many of those coaches.
Neither is among the nation’s top 50 best-paid coaches. Doeren ranks 51st and Kelly 64th.
Alabama’s Nick Saban sits at the top of the list by a wide margin at $11,132,000. Clemson’s Dabo Swinney is second nationally at $8,526,800, well ahead of Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher, who makes $5,700,000 a year and is listed sixth.
Duke’s David Cutcliffe is 46th in the listings at $2,613,638, and North Carolina’s Larry Fedora is 50th at $2,290,000, according to USA Today. Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson is 62nd at $1,827,370.
USA Today did not list salaries for Miami’s Mark Richt or Dino Babers of Syracuse. There were nine coaches without reported salaries.
East Carolina’s Scottie Montgomery is 78th at $1,050,000 among the coaches listed in the USA Report.
