NFL Draft: Cockrell, 3 from UNC picked; Four sign FA deals

Cockrell’s selection was the first of a busy day at the NFL Draft for Duke and North Carolina. After Cockrell went to Buffalo with the 109th pick, Cincinnati selected UNC offensive lineman Russell Bodine with the 111th pick. Tar Heels strong safety Tre Boston went to the Carolina Panthers later in the fourth round at the 128th overall slot. In the seventh round, Minnesota selected UNC cornerback Jabari Price with the 225th overall pick.

UNC men sweep past S.C. State in NCAA tennis opener

The seventh-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team cruised past South Carolina State 4-0 on Saturday at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center to advance to the second round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships.

No. 4 Seminoles win again, leaving UNC on postseason ropes

With a chance for selection to postseason play hanging in the balance, a struggling UNC team likely needs big wins against No. 4 Florida State this weekend and at Miami later this week to get into the College World Series chase. But the Tar Heels face a possible sweep today by the Seminoles, who dominated the first two games in a three-game series by a combined 17-2 score, including a convincing 10-2 win Saturday.

Mistakes doom UNC in series-opening loss to Seminoles

Facing No. 4 Florida State and ace Luke Weaver and needing some wins to improve its NCAA Tournament chances, North Carolina couldn’t afford any mental mistakes. Instead, the Tar Heels allowed two runs to score on a wild pitch in the second inning, sending the Seminoles on their way to a 7-0 win in the series opener at Boshamer Stadium.

Duke, UNC to host Miami, FSU in key ACC series this weekend

UNC will host Atlantic Division leader Florida State at Boshamer Stadium (Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m., Sunday at 1 p.m.), while Duke will face Coastal Division leader Miami at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m., Sunday at noon).
