Alabama
Oregon
Clemson
Ohio State
Georgia
Stanford
Louisville
UCLA
Texas A&M
LSU
South Carolina
FSU
Miami
Oklahoma
Florida
Northwestern
Washington
Arizona State
Wisconsin
Michigan
Texas Tech
Baylor
Maryland
Virginia Tech
Fresno State

Notes on the poll:

Three new teams entered my poll this week, as Maryland, Virginia Tech and Fresno State replaced Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech.

Maryland’s 37-0 over West Virginia looked a whole lot better after the Mountaineers beat Oklahoma State Saturday.

Virginia Tech, whose only loss was to Alabama, gets in after beating Georgia Tech in Atlanta (and VT’s close win over East Carolina also looked better after ECU hammered UNC).

Notre Dame’s two losses aren’t bad – at Michigan and Saturday against Oklahoma – but close wins against Purdue and Michigan State aren’t enough to balance those out and keep the Fighting Irish in the poll. Instead, I went with Fresno State, whose win over Boise State was just enough to overcome the fact that they almost blew a 42-3 lead at Hawaii.

I also made a few minor changes near the top, moving Clemson to 3 (from 4) and Georgia to 5 (from 6) after the Bulldogs beat LSU, which made Clemson’s win over Georgia even more impressive.
