My AP Top 25 ballot: Georgia Tech replaces Nebraska

Sep. 15, 2013 @ 06:24 PM

Here’s my AP Top 25 poll after Week 3, with some quick notes:

1 Alabama

2 Oregon

3 Ohio State

4 Clemson

5 Georgia

6 Stanford

7 Louisville

8 LSU

9 South Carolina

10 UCLA

11 Texas A&M

12 FSU

13 Oklahoma State

14 Miami

15 Florida

16 Arizona State

17 Northwestern

18 Oklahoma

19 Michigan

20 Wisconsin

21 Washington

22 Texas Tech

23 Notre Dame

24 Northern Illinois

25 Georgia Tech

Other: Michigan State, Baylor

My top 8 remained unchanged.

I didn’t drop Texas A&M for losing by seven to the best team in the country.

I moved UCLA and Arizona State up 4-5 spots for beating ranked teams.

Even though it won, I dropped Michigan for its escape against Akron (this also made Notre Dame fall, since I wanted to keep Michigan above a team it beat last week)

Texas Tech replaced TCU after the Red Raiders beat the Horned Frogs

I dropped Nebraska out after its loss and added Georgia Tech, who dominated on the road. I like Vad Lee as a dual-threat QB in the triple option and the defense in its first full season with Ted Roof.

The other two teams I considered for the No. 25 spot were Michigan State and Baylor. The Spartans haven’t been that impressive in their two FBS wins, while Baylor hasn’t played an FBS team yet (and won’t until October)

Besides Baylor, the other ranked team that’s not on my list is Ole Miss. I credit the Rebels for the non-conference road win, but Texas is in free fall right now. Winning even one of the next four (at Alabama, at Auburn, Texas A&M, LSU) would make me reconsider.
