UNC gets top RB prospect
Five-star running back Elijah Hood said he will be attending North Carolina next season.
The Charlotte Catholic senior is ranked as the top prospect in the state and one of the top 10 running backs in the country by Scout.com.
Hood originally picked Notre Dame over the Tar Heels, but he reopened his recruitment last week because he wanted to play closer to home.
“This decision will allow my community to continue to be a part of me as I grow not only academically and physically but in faith and maturity as well,” Hood said in a statement that he posted on Twitter.
If Hood eventually signs with UNC in February, he will follow the path of Hillside High graduate Greg Little and running back Giovani Bernard, who both originally chose Notre Dame and then wound up playing for the Tar Heels.
According to MaxPreps, Hood ran 278 times for 3,309 yards and 47 touchdowns last season as Charlotte Catholic advanced to the 3AA state title game, where it lost to Northern Guilford and current UNC freshman running back T.J. Logan.
In his first game of his senior season Saturday, Hood rushed for 325 yards and five touchdowns on 37 carries as Charlotte Catholic beat Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) 35-28.
