North Carolina’s streak of appearances in the NCAA baseball tournament will continue – barely.

The Tar Heels (34-25) were one of the last four teams selected into the 64-team field, which was announced Monday.

Tar Heel women advance to NCAA tennis Final Four

North Carolina’s Hayley Carter gave herself quite a birthday present Saturday. In the quarterfinals of the NCAA women’s tennis championships, the now 19-year-old freshman closed out a three-set win at No. 2 singles to give No. 7 North Carolina a 4-2 quarterfinal victory over second-ranked Alabama at Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Miami clinches ACC regular-season title, downs UNC 2-0

No. 4 Miami got six scoreless innings from starter Bryan Radziewski and clinched the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title with a 2-0 win over North Carolina Saturday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park.

TITLE REIGN ENDS

VIRGINIA OVERCOMES 8-4 2ND HALF DEFICIT IN NCAA QUARTERFINALS

Virginia went on a 6-0 run in the second half and came from behind to beat North Carolina, 10-9, in the NCAA women’s lacrosse tournament quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Fetzer Field.  The Cavaliers held the defending national champion Tar Heels scoreless for over 22 minutes, turning an 8-4, second-half UNC lead into a 10-8 UVa advantage, then holding on for the victory.

The loss ends third-seeded Carolina’s season at 15-5.  The Tar Heels were seeking their fifth NCAA semifinal appearance in the last six years.  Instead, sixth-seeded Virginia advances to the semis and will face second-seeded Syracuse, which beat Boston College on Saturday afternoon.

Virginia got two goals and three assists from Casey Bocklet, two goals and two assists from Liza Blue and two goals and one assist from Mary Alati.  Kelly Boyd and Maddy Keeshan both also scored twice for UVa.

Carolina got three goals each from senior Abbey Friend and freshman Carly Reed, as well as a goal and two assists from freshman Maggie Bill.  Senior Taylor George and redshirt freshman Carly Davis also scored for UNC.

UNC splits doubleheader at Miami

Tyler Palmer drove in two runs with his fifth hit of the day and No. 4 Miami rallied for a 6-5 win over North Carolina in 16 innings Friday at Alex Rodriguez Park. The Tar Heels won the nightcap 11-2.

Tar Heels reach men's tennis Elite Eight for 1st time in 22 years

Sophomore Brett Clark clinched the University of North Carolina's first trip to the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament quarterfinals in 22 years Friday evening as the #7 seed Tar Heels defeated the #10 seed and host Georgia Bulldogs 4-2 at historic Henry Feild Stadium.

Seventh-seeded North Carolina downed 10th-seeded Texas A&M 4-0 in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship on Thursday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

APR: Duke No. 1 in ACC football, basketball; UNC last

Duke led all ACC football and men’s basketball teams while North Carolina was last in the conference in the two major sports in the latest four-year Academic Progress Rate scores, which were released by the NCAA on Wednesday.
