Duke's Cragg withdraws from Rice AD search
Duke deputy athletics director Mike Cragg will not become Rice University’s next athletics director.
Cragg, who interviewed with Rice officials in Houston last week, said Monday that he removed his name from consideration for the job.
“We did decide that,” Cragg said. “We are excited to be staying at Duke. That’s what it came down to. We feel like we have a lot of work to accomplish. We love it here. We felt it was the best place for my family to live and work.”
The 48-year-old Cragg has been with Duke athletics since 1987. He interviewed twice with Rice officials, including that second interview last week.
Rice is seeking a replacement for Rick Greenspan, who resigned on June 30.
“It was a great opportunity,” Cragg said. “It’s a great school and great people. At the end, it came down to we wanted to be here at Duke.”
