Injury updates on Johnson, Patrick, Duke's winning streak, Martin's records
UNBEATEN DUKE MORE THAN GOOD ENOUGH AGAINST ERROR-PRONE TULANE
It’s certainly an indicator of just how far Duke football has progressed that the Blue Devils are off to their best start in 20 years yet lack total comfort in their play.
On a Saturday featuring picture-perfect weather, the Blue Devils won an imperfect game 47-13 over Tulane at Wallace Wade Stadium to keep their record spotless as they enter ACC play.
“I can’t wait. I want to see this tape,” Duke coach David Cutcliffe said. “I’m anxious…This tape is going to tell us a lot about our football team.”
Cutcliffe will have to pick through all the miscues, most but certainly not all from Tulane (1-3), to analyze his team.
Duke (4-0) committed its first two turnovers of the season and was called for a season-high seven penalties. The Blue Devils allowed Tulane to gain 215 rushing yards as five different Green Wave runners logged gains of 10 yards or more.
“We definitely have a lot to work on,” Duke middle linebacker David Helton said, after Tulane ran 95 offensive plays against the Blue Devils. “A lot to work on but at least we pulled it out in the red zone like we usually do.”
