More than 1 million people attended the 2017 N.C. State Fair, making for the fourth highest attendance of all time, fair organizers said.
This year, 1,014,478 million people attended the fair, and the first day of the fair broke a record for attendance with 57,083 people attending on Thursday, Oct. 12.
The peak day for fair attendance was Saturday, Oct. 21, when 148,424 people attended the fair.
Historic average fair attendance (from 1990 to 2016) is 845,726. Average attendance in the past 10 years is 947,338.
Brian Long, N.C. Department of Agriculture spokesman, said fair organizers were happy with the Our State Public House that served wine and beer at the fair for the first time this year.
“There weren’t any issues with it,” Long said. “As we do with various aspects of the fair, we’ll evaluate the Public House and determine what to do about next year.”
