County offices will close for holiday

DURHAM -- Durham County government will close most of its offices on Nov. 26 and Nov. 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The county will reopen all offices on Nov. 30.

Residents are asked to take note of the following exceptions:

- The Durham Center will follow the county holiday closing schedule. However, The Durham Center Access, a facility for stabilization and short-term treatment of adults with mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse, located at 309 Crutchfield St., will maintain its 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year schedule.

- All locations of the Durham County Library will close at 6 p.m. on Nov. 25 and remain closed Nov. 26-27. The library will resume its regular schedule on Nov. 28.

- The Durham County General Services Department will close its four Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience Centers Thanksgiving Day and county residents with a current solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at 7 a.m. Nov. 30.

County roadside recycling customers normally serviced on Thursdays will receive collection service on Nov. 28 and are reminded to set out recycling bins before 7 a.m. on the day of pick up to avoid a missed collection.

- The Durham County Department of Social Services will follow the county holiday closing schedule. To report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect, residents should call 911 to reach an on-call social worker.
