Bishops' lobbying subjugates women

Janet Colm's column, "Health care reform without abortion coverage unfair" [Nov. 25] cites political pressure by the U.S. Conference of Roman Catholic Bishops as a main factor in the adoption by the House of Representatives of the Stupak Amendment to health care reform legislation which would place a de-facto ban on insurance coverage for legal abortions in this county.

No other medical procedure has been the target of relentless lobbying in the history of the United States. This is just one more example of the Roman Catholic Church subjugating the rights of women and their role in society, lasting now over three millenia. The church priesthood is closed to women and they are therefor excluded from adopting or implementing Church policy.

It would be interesting to see the result of sex discrimination litigation brought against the Church when five of the nine current Supreme Court justices are Roman Catholics.

Suggestions for GOP

The Republicans are very concerned about the ever rising national debt, and the amount of money this administration has proposed to spend. I ask, where was this concern when George W. Bush raided the record surplus Clinton left him? Where was the concern when G.W. started a needless war with Iraq? That is a war that has cost thousands, and still counting, of American lives; tens of billions of dollars in military equipment and billions in no-bid contracts with Halliburton and with Blackwater and their mercenaries.

Now Republicans are concerned about taking back the White House in 2012. I suggest the GOP get Dan Quail -- you remember him, the former vice-presidential candidate who had trouble spelling potato on national TV. Team Dan with Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska, the same one who displayed her foreign policy knowledge by stating, "I can see Russia from here." It does not matter if Sarah or Dan becomes the president, the GOP will have a sure winner. The reason for the win -- Americans love a clown. This was proved to be true when G.W. was in for eight years. Now for the good part -- the GOP can set up Fox News to air from the White House, and get Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Ann Coulter to be advisers to the president.

leemoe,

I think I owe you an apology. I spent some time thinking after my last comment and did not feel good about arguing with someone I know nothing about. Even though we do not see what is going on in this world the same, we should be able to agree to disagree and still respect each others opinions. I am sorry for being so harsh with my opinion. I do think however politicians in both parties expect us to stick up for them no matter what. I honestly believe none of them have our best interest at heart. There is so much anger and hatred in this country nowadays and I feel I have just added to it. My fight should be with the people in Washington, not a fellow American. I am truely sorry.

leemoe,

And your facts come from where.......I don't need government run healthcare, I have always paid my own way and NEVER got any handouts from the government. You actually are the one who sounds bitter. I never said Obama was illegal, you did. I believe we should help those in need. What I don't think we should do is pay for abortions on demand and take from one and give to another who refuses to work. Would be willing to bet on this bogas healthcare bill? Just because I do not agree with this unqualified president does not mean I am negative. I want this country to thrive and prosper and those are the very two things this government is trying to prevent. People are out of work and suffering and they continue to pass bill after bill that would raise taxes. Maybe if they would actually quit stealing from the American people maybe the economy would recover and people could pay private companies for health insurance. If you can name one program this government has made better then I would see your point. If not, I will put my faith in the strength of the American people and not a bunch of crooks in Washington. And...if you think they actually care about people you are misguided. Oh, and by the way Rush spells his last name like this......Limbaugh.

Good luck with that FREE insurance.

mab123 I usually make one post but I will post again. You just keep looking at Fox News, Bill O'Rielly, Glen Beck, Rush Lumbuarch and all those other wackos you get you uninformed news from. You are just bitter. Good thing Health Care Reform is coming because you need help. Let it go. I'm sure your family & friends hate to see you come as much as you complain. All your postings are negative. I have not ties to any party. I vote as I see fit. If Obama is an illegal president then get your cronnies to get him out of office.

leemoe,

Not bitter at all, just realistic. Watch the news. All of this presidents connections: acorn, reverand wright, czars.......I could go on and on. If standing up for our country is being a bitter person, then so be it! What I think is more pathetic is defending someone because it is your political party. Wrong is wrong.

For the record, the "Clinton surplus" was an accounting viewpoint of ONLY the year's budget, without factoring in the National Debt. And FYI the National Debt has grown under every Congress (who is responsible -NOT the President) since the 1830's. Check out the various graphs of the National Debt vs political control Congress, and Percent of GDP that are available on the Web. They are eye openers.

How could Sarah Palin be any worse then what this unqualified, arrogant, self-centered, corrupt "president of the world" is doing? At least the woman is honest. Another quality this president does not posess. Heck, at this point lets throw them all out and start over again!

Comment on first article: Why should those of us who are pro-life pay for those who choose to abort their babies as a convenience? Either use birth-control or pay for your own so-called "mistakes."

The second writer needs to get his facts straight. Sarah Palin did not say she could see Russia from her house, it was a comedian on S.N.L. Hope thats not where you are getting all your political information from. What did you think about Obama being in all 57 states? haha. Not sure what the American people think is worse, what you call a clown or a community organizer that has now shown to have no idea how to run a country, but a good take on how to destroy one. As for Ann, Rush, and Glen Beck, they have got to be more honest then all of the chicago thugs in this administration and wacko czars that are in the white house. F.Y.I. Obama has spent more money in the first nine months in office then all of the presidents before him put together. What is worse is he won't be done spending until he bankrupts and finally destroys America's dreams.
