We all want to end our careers on a high note. That’s just what Ron Benson is doing.
Saturday will be the last game for the Chapel Hill High School girls’ soccer coach.
After three decades with the program, the 73-year-old has decided it’s time to hang it up. His last game, which will be played Saturday afternoon at N.C. State, is not just any game. It’s for the state title. This season also happens to be the first time that the Chapel Hill girls’ team has made it to the state championship.
It’s a heck of a run to end a heck of a career for a man who has treated his players well and earned respect of his opposing coaches.
We wish the Tigers well in this season's final game, and particularly hope the game goes well for their coach. We hope not only will Benson bring home the Grit Award, of which he is this week’s recipient, but that he and his team will have a state championship trophy, too.
