Grit Award

If you have any doubts about the quality of education found in Durham Public Schools, you should get to know Jeff Whitt.
The Carrington Middle School teacher recently was named the 2014 Outstanding Teacher of the Gifted by the N.C. Association for the Gifted and Talented.
Whitt is no stranger to the paper. He has encouraged his students to submit items for publication in the past, and has talked to us about his passion for teaching.
His love for his profession is clear. “Jeff has non-stop energy that he channels into support for the AIG program at his school,” interim Superintendent Hugh Osteen said.
He is the teacher we should want for all our children. Whitt, this week’s Grit Award winner, epitomizes what is right with education.
