Legislators should work on solutions to real problems

North Carolina legislators are getting quite good at introducing bills that can only be described as “solutions in search of a problem.” They’ve targeted reproductive and voting rights, and now they’re targeting the state budget by pushing a rigid spending-limit known as the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR). If passed, TABOR would insert a flawed formula into the state’s constitution that would do nothing to support and grow our economy and improve our quality of life.

TABOR would “lock-in” the already too low levels of spending on important services that enable children, families, and communities to thrive. To maintain a strong economy, we need adequate public resources to support education, infrastructure and community services - not an arbitrary formula that would force permanent cuts to these public priorities. All businesses need a trained and healthy workforce but TABOR would only place a greater burden on them by limiting support for state-provided services such as workforce training programs and research assistance.

The only state to implement TABOR is Colorado where it caused such deep cuts that business leaders turned against it and voters chose to suspend it so that the state could recover and grow their economy.

Do our legislators want North Carolina to keep making national headlines for harmful and embarrassingly regressive policies? They need to put on their thinking caps and come up with real solutions to real problems.

Trust Obama?

The Obama administration has been so corrupt and tyrannical that it makes what Nixon did look like jaywalking. Every day a new scandal emerges that demonstrates just how far Obama will go to remake America into the dictatorial utopia he envisions. He lies to the American people every time he steps in front of a microphone.

We have four dead Americans in Benghazi and hundreds of unanswered questions. Thirty-three people survived the attack. Why haven’t we heard from them? Who gave the order to stand down as our fellow citizens were being murdered? Where was the President on the night of the attack? Why did he and Hillary Clinton lie repeatedly about the motive for the attacks?

The IRS has admitted to targeting tea party and patriot groups for audits and special harassment. New facts emerge daily detailing the depth and breadth of these tyrannical efforts to weaken and silence anyone who dares to oppose this criminal administration.

The administration has targeted conservative media outlets for particular scrutiny and intimidation, specifically Fox News reporters.

Rising above it all is our omniscient President. The smartest man in the universe. Amazingly he knows nothing about all of this corruption swirling around him. He and his press secretary, the artful dodger Jay Carney, are so skilled at changing their stories that deceit has become second nature for them.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, everybody. He knows what's best for us all. He takes full responsibility. Trust him.
