Strange who is quoted
I think it's strange how Greg Childress references the Durham Public Schools board chair, Heidi Carter, in his articles but when he mentions the county commissioners he quotes Ellen Reckhow. It's strange that he didn't (not once) reference the chair of the county commissioners. I wonder what that is all about? He didn't mention whether he refused to comment or couldn't be reached. Ironically, Reckhow was available.
Secondly, it is naïve to believe that Eric Becoats should have the expertise to discover the accounting error. Who is the person in charge of finance? Not once in either article did you address this or mention the individual that heads finance for DPS. I have no idea who the person is but I suspect that Eric Becoats did not hire this person. I understand that Becoats is ultimately responsible for everything but at least be fair and objective.
I have a sneaky suspicion that at some point in the near future, the School board will be asking for Becoats’ resignation. Stay tuned right?
Personally, I don't care if they do ask for his resignation but it is amazing to me how The Herald-Sun, through its reporters (black and white alike), continues to support someone's or a particular group's agenda. You should be more professional and at least try to be objective.
