Grit Award

Oct. 25, 2013 @ 02:23 PM

The photo that Christine Nguyen took that appeared on page A1 Wednesday is wonderful. In case you missed that day’s paper, it showed a high school principal receiving an award that he didn’t expect. The best part of the photo was the expressions of sheer joy on the faces of the young people surrounding him.
William Logan, selected as this year’s Principal of the Year for Durham Public Schools, has been principal of Hillside High School since 2012. He’s helped the school move forward on performance, and he’s done it in a way that has engendered the deep trust and respect of his students.
Kayla Daniels, senior class president, said many students call Logan “father.” “He might think we’re playing, but we really look up to him.”
We are proud to have William Logan represent Durham at the regional level now for Principal of the Year. We are grateful for the potential he sees in his students and the challenges he gives them. In addition to being Durham’s Principal of the Year, Logan is this week’s Grit Award winner. Congratulations to him and the Hillside High community.
