Grit Award

Thank goodness this finder was not a keeper.
Deuce the Dog of Durham Bulls fame had the good fortune when he fled ballpark fireworks last weekend to run into James Pryor.
It is unknown where the dog on the lam had been before he bumped into Pryor Wednesday, but Deuce apparently didn’t fall on hard times during his disappearance. He didn’t even need a bath and only showed signs of being a bit sore, probably from running “double his maximum speed,” as owner and trainer Gene Lonsway described it, to get away from the noise of the fireworks.
Pryor kindly took the time when he saw a dog at Carroll Street Park to try to help it. He wound up with Deuce, and took the necessary steps to reunite the 1-year-old border collie with his person. Hats off to Pryor and an extra treat for Deuce, please, for this week’s Grit Award.
