It’s been a while, we must admit, since the Grit Award panel took the SAT. But most of us remember about where our scores fell, which gives an idea of the import that test has for many teens.
Gala Taylor, we are fairly certain, will remember decades from now what her score was. The Durham Academy sophomore (yes – that’s right, she’s just a sophomore) won’t have to remember the specific number; she’ll just have to remember it was perfect.
Gala is among roughly 494 students taking the SAT to reach the 2,400 mark this year. That’s less than 0.03 percent of SAT takers.
We know her parents, John and Diana Taylor, must be extraordinarily proud of their daughter. The rest of our community should be, too.
We certainly are, and we’d like to give this week’s Grit Award to Gala in honor of her outstanding achievement.
