Grit Award

Dec. 20, 2013 @ 02:54 PM

It seems like such a small thing. One gift. Yet that is all the organizers of a toy and coat drive to be held today in McDougald Terrace are asking donors to give. They want to make sure that no child leaves empty-handed, and that all the children living in the public housing community have winter coats. On Thursday, the drive was still 80 toys short.

Families in McDougald are among our city’s most impoverished. One gift is so little, and so important, to the spirit of this season. Every child deserves to feel special and loved year-round, but this particular time of year provides the opportunity to do just that.
This week’s Grit Award goes to the organizers of the toy and coat drive in McDougald and all of the people who contributed to it to make a child’s day. There’s still time to help. Call Felicia Quinn at 919-641-9962 or bring an unwrapped toy or coat by the McDougald Terrace Community Center at 1101 E. Lawson St.
