Grit Award

Farming is not for the faint of heart.

In recent years, local growers have faced issues with drought. This year, though, it’s been the rain. Laura Oleniacz reported Monday on the devastation area farmers are facing, ranging from produce rotting in the field to livestock not eating well to fruits and vegetables that taste watery.

“There aren’t going to be any profits … in other words, financially, we won’t earn enough to pay off what we put in the ground,” David Walker, owner of Walker’s Farm in Hillsborough, told Oleniacz.

Talk about a tough profession. So this weekend, go to one of our many farmers’ market and buy. Support our local agriculture. And wish them the best as this week’s Grit Award winners.
