Grit Award

Aug. 15, 2014 @ 11:57 AM

Jerry Mack and N.C. Central University football team added a player Sunday.
Ten-year-old Howell Brown, who completed treatment for Stage IV pineoblastoma last September, will be a powerful presence on the sideline for the team this fall.
Howell’s mom, Sue, said football means a lot to her son, especially the team mentality of the sport. The Eagles came through for their newest and youngest member, welcoming him as one of their own.
Mack and his players should be commended for taking the time to build a relationship with a 10-year-old boy who has already been through one of the toughest challenges imaginable. And Howell will be an inspiring presence to the team, serving as a reminder to players about perseverance, endurance and never giving up. To the Eagles, from Coach Mack down the ranks to Howell Brown, we’d like to salute you with this week’s Grit Award for creating a memorable season for each other.
