Minnie Ethel Fikes Jones

DURHAM - Minnie Ethel Fikes Jones, 91, went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2013 at Duke University Hospital. Celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Hamlet Chapel CME Church in Pittsboro, NC with a visitation from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. Rev. Charles E. Robertson, officiating. Interment will follow in Hamlet Chapel CME Church Cemetery.
Minnie was born December 6, 1921 in Chatham County, North Carolina to the late Robert Fikes and Ida Freeman Fikes. Minnie was the fourth child born out of nine children. She was a graduate of Horton High School in 1940. Minnie was a faithful and dedicated lifetime member of Hamlet Chapel CME Church where she served with great pride and humility. She was an excellent cook and was known for her floral arrangements.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, John H. Fikes, Rufus E. Goins, Nathan D. Goins, Thomas R. Fikes, and Richard N. Fikes; along with two sisters, Fannie F. Clark and Louise F. Baldwin.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son, James “RJ” (Janie) Jones of McLeansville, NC; three grandchildren, Janelle (Earl) Barnes of High Point, NC, Jason Jones of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Jonathan Jones of Rocky Mount, NC; two step-grandchildren, Keith Price of Washington, DC and Brita Price of Jamestown, NC; three great-grandchildren, Nicole and Maciah Barnes of High Point, NC, and Kai’ahna White of Greensboro, NC; one sister, Juliaette Reynolds of Chapel Hill; two sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Goins and Alberta Neely of Chapel Hill; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Jayda Zamone Parker
DURHAM - Jayda Zamone Parker, age 15, passed away at her home on March 6, 2013. Jayda is the daughter of Laneshi Parker and Joseph Jones. Other survivors include one sister, Lyric Parker; and four brothers, Justin Maye, Joseph and Jeremiah Jones and Jeremy Buie.
Services will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 1:30 with visitation at 1 at Union Baptist Church, 904 N. Roxboro Street.

Leonard Curtis Pergerson Jr. “Curt”
ROUGEMONT - Mr. Leonard Curtis Pergerson Jr. “Curt”, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Durham Regional Hospital. He was born in Durham Co., the son of Leonard Curtis Pergerson Sr. and Brenda Durham Pergerson.  
In addition to his parents, surviving are his wife, Jacquelyn “Jaci” Pergerson; son, Curtis Bryce Pergerson; brother,  Christopher Scott Pergerson (Sandra); sister, Courtney Pergerson Luther (Johnny); mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jack and Sally Furr Staunton; brother-in-law, Len Staunton; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday, March 11, 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Dr. Ned Mathews and Mr. Ron Richardson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 to 1:45 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

R. Lloyd Terry

GRAHAM – Mr. R. Lloyd Terry, 90, of 100 Allen Street, Graham, died at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 5:05 p.m. following a brief illness.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of Nora Gates Terry, who preceded him in death, and Annie Hensley Terry, who survives. He retired from Lucent Technologies and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Lloyd was a member for 60 years of Swepsonville United Methodist Church and also a member of the Methodist Men.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Terry Allen of Graham; two sons, Cecil Lloyd Terry and wife, Joan, of Lexington and Ricky Gates Terry and wife, Barbara, of Haw River; two sisters, Foy Hunt of Durham and Katy Sue Clayton of Hurdle Mills; two brothers, D. Nicks Terry of Durham and Darrell Pleasant Terry of Roxboro; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Katherine Seay and husband, Joe, of Graham; three step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Martin; and two brothers, John Bernard Terry and Zeb Terry.
The funeral service will be conducted at Swepsonville United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 3 p.m. by Rev. Jerry Martin. Burial will follow in Little River Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Hurdle Mills, NC.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Other times, they will be at the residence.

Mary Elizabeth Lloyd Turner “Peggy”

HILLSBOROUGH – Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lloyd Turner “Peggy”, 84, died Friday, March 8, 2013. She was a native of Orange County and was educated in the Orange County schools. She was dietary supervisor at Watts Hospital and retired from the Orange County Schools cafeteria department. She gained much joy from playing the piano as well as from her love of animals.
Surviving are two sons, John Turner Jr. (Kay), Monroe, and Grady Lloyd Turner (Patricia), Hillsborough; two grandchildren, Jeff Turner (Becka), Mint Hill, and Lauri T. Pressley (Tim), Matthews; four great grandchildren, Lucas Turner, Ian Turner, Morgan Pressley, and Owen Pressley.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 Saturday in Walker’s Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Gaither. Burial will be in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.

Silas Gray Cooke
DANVILLE, VA - Silas Gray Cooke, 84, of 261 Major Court, Danville, VA, went to be with his Savior on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 while a patient in Danville Regional Medical Center. Born May 19, 1928 in Johnston County, NC, he was the son of the late Coy Dale Cooke and the late Stella Liles Cooke. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Dare Newton Cooke of the residence.
Mr. Cooke worked for Raleigh Linen Service (Servitex) as Vice President and General Manager where he retired in 1991 following 44 years of service. He was an active member of North Main Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Cooke was also a member of Tuscarora Country Club, where he worked in the pro shop for 11 years.  He was a charter member of the Raleigh Breakfast Optimist Club and was a 32 degree Mason of A.F. & A.M. Also, Mr. Cooke was very active in The Gideons International, serving on the Virginia state board and as former church assignment secretary. He was also a member of the Wolfpack Club and the Raleigh Sports Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Donna Marie Cooke Allgood of Chapel Hill, NC and Connie Gray Cooke of Virginia Beach, VA; his son, Philip Anthony Cooke, and wife, Jennifer Mayhorn Cooke, of Lynchburg; his brothers, Archie D. Cooke of Raleigh, NC and Grady Cooke of Clayton, NC. He is also survived by his three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Katie Madeline Cooke and Doris Cooke Wilder; and his brothers, Wilbert Cooke, Harry Cooke and Roy Cooke.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at North Main Baptist Church, Danville with Rev. Deryl Holiday officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, Friday, March 8, 2013 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. and other times will be at the residence.
