Lula Mae Broadie
DURHAM - Lula Mae Broadie, 80, departed her life on September 6, 2013. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, two sons, a stepson, a stepdaughter, 26 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves two god sisters.
Services are Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Fisher Memorial, wake at 11 a.m. and funeral at 12.

Robert Lee Davis
DURHAM - Mr. Robert Lee Davis, 63, of Durham, died on Sunday, September 8, 2013. He was the son of the late James Davis Sr. and Elizabeth Labiske Davis. He retired after 20 years of service from the U.S. Army as a Sgt. First Class. He also retired from CFI Inc. College Foundation after 12 years of service as a System Analyst. Mr. Davis continued his education and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems from Strayer University in Washington DC.
He is survived by his wife, Mary "Martha" Davis; two sons, Donald Davis and James Davis of Dallas Texas; one daughter, Michaela Davis Olds of Durham; two brothers, James Davis and Richard Davis of Oregon; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church in Durham, officiated by Rev. Hugh O'Shields.

Mary S. Jones
DURHAM — Mary S. Jones, 100, formerly of 4909 US Hwy 70, Durham, died in Garner, NC on Friday, September 6, 2013, at 548 Hay River St. in Garner, NC. She was born Saturday, November 30, 1912 in Orange County, NC to the late William Scarlett and Lula Watlington Scarlett.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 in Piney Grove Baptist Church with family visitation one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors are daughter, Doris Cannady Davis (James) of Cary, NC; three grandchildren, Rhonda Russell, Glenn Tapp and Byron Davis; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Tapp and Charlize Russell; and one great-great-grandson, Jarel Tapp; one sister-in-law, Mary Whitted Scarlett.
Public viewing 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday in Chavis-Parker Funeral Home.


Faye McBroom
DURHAM — Faye McBroom, 86, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Hock Family Pavilion. She was born in Guilford Co. to the late Everett Jones and Myrtle Henley Jones. She was also predeceased by her former husband, Raymond McBroom; and son, Joseph “Joe” Everett McBroom. Ms. McBroom was formerly co-owner of McBroom Rentals, active in Bragtown Elementary PTA, and a member of the Eastern Star.
Ms. McBroom is survived by her daughters, Linda Kathryn Clark of Jackson, NC, Judy Martin, and husband, John of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Lisa Hansink, John Best Jr., Brian McBroom; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with The Rev. Steven Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Clements Funeral Home.

Ella Ray Smith-Worsley
DURHAM — Ella Ray Smith-Worsley was born to the late Oscar Moore and Melba Adams Brandon in Oxford, NC. on September 21, 1941. She passed away at Duke Medical Center on September 7, 2013.
Ella is survived by her husband, Curtis Saudi Abdul Al-Khaaliq; and two children, Anthony Smith and Veronica Smith-Brown.
Funeral Services will take place on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Union Baptist Church, 904 N Roxboro St, Durham, NC 2770 at 1 p.m. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the service.

Georgia Brantley Vaughan
DURHAM — Mrs. Georgia Brantley Vaughan born October 8, 1934, she was 78. Georgia went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Tuesday at Carver Living Center. Mrs. Vaughan was born in Durham Co., the daughter of the late Quinton Roosevelt Brantley and the late Lela Lee Yates Brantley. Prior to her retirement she was employed by Harvey’s Cafeteria, Carolina Office Supply, and Vickers Clothiers. She attended Freedom Baptist Church in Durham and was a member of Berea Baptist Church in Durham. Mrs. Vaughan was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy R. Williams Sr.; daughter, Sandra Lee Williams; and a sister, Janelle B. Glenn.
Mrs. Vaughan is survived by her husband of 39 years, Harold Vaughan; son, Billy Ross Williams Jr. and wife, Edith; brother, Arliss P. Brantley and wife, Corrinia; sisters, Juanita B. Vickers and husband, Mack, and Correen B. Harris; one granddaughter, which was the apple of her eye, Jennifer Ann Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews, Douglas Glenn, Donna Goss, Richard Vickers, Aubrey Vickers, Tony Harris, Diane Mathis, Page Brantley and James Brantley.
Funeral services will be held Friday 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Dr. Gerald Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 to 1:45 at Clements Funeral Home in Durham and at other times at the home of Correen B. Harris at 2927 Cheek Rd. Flowers are acceptable or contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Stacy W. Morrison
MEBANE - Mr. Stacy W. Morrison, 82, a resident of Mebane, died Tuesday evening. Mr. Morrison was born in Durham, son of the late John C. and Gracie Ford Morrison. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Leslie Watkins Morrison; a daughter, Brenda M. Wagner; a sister, Audrey Carden; and two brothers, Johnny Morrison and Clifford Morrison. He was retired from Liggett and Myers Tobacco Co.
Surviving are a daughter, Lorraine Morrison Burnette and husband, Bill; three grandsons, Jeffrey Jones, Tracy Burnette and Jeremy Burnette; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham by Rev. David Bolick and Rev. Robert Rice. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home in Durham Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Myron Eugene “Gene” Wade
PITTSBORO — Mr. Myron Eugene Wade, 85, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013 at Pittsboro Christian Village. He was born in Person Co. to the late Benjamin Franklin Wade and Hattie Johnson Wade. He was also predeceased by a brother, Benjamin Wade. Mr. Wade was an elder at Northgate Chapel and retired from GMAC.
Mr. Wade is survived by his wife, Jane Wade of Pittsboro; son, Gene Wade Jr. (Lynette) of Aurora, IL; daughter, Becky W. Smith (Luther) of Durham; son, Robert Wade (Carolann) of Cary; daughter, Charlotte W. Thrall (Billy) of Phoeniz, AZ; sister, Harriett Bowles; grandchildren, Stephanie W. Stoller (Chip), Melissa W. Trumble (John), Kristy W. Wilson (Mike), Laura W. Hartley (Adam), Ben Wade (fiancé, Beth Robinette), Sarah Wade, Michael Thrall, Jonathan Thrall, Joshua Thrall, Matthew Smith, Ethan Smith, Zachery Wade, Nathan Wade, Hannah Wade; 13 great grandchildren; one niece and three nephews.
A memorial service will be held 12 p.m., Saturday at Northgate Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at Birchwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Betty Louise Marks
CHAPEL HILL — Betty Louise Marks, 89, of Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, NC died August 27, 2013. Betty was the daughter of the late Hilary and Louise Womble Marks. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1942 and the University of North Carolina in 1946 where she was a member of the tennis team. Following graduation, she did social work at the Department of Public Welfare in Mecklenburg County. She returned to Chapel Hill after a year and was employed by the University of North Carolina where she remained until her retirement in 1977. While at the University she worked in the School of Public Health, Business Manager’s Office and the School of Dentistry. She was Project Coordinator, Environmental Sciences & Engineering Design with worldwide distribution for the School of Public Health. She moved to Carolina Meadows, a retirement center in Chapel Hill, in 1990. She was a former member of Carrboro United Methodist Church and a longtime member of University United Methodist Church, Chapel Hill where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, sang in the choir for many years and was a past member of the Church Board.
She is survived by three nephews, Dan Jr., Scott and David Marks; and three great nephews, Zachery, Richard and Sam Marks; and one great niece, Natalie Marks.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill. A private family burial will follow the service that afternoon.

Edna Brewer Woods
HURDLE MILLS — Edna Brewer Woods of Hurdle Mills, NC, died September 8, 2013 at Carolina Point Healthcare. Edna was born April 11, 1921 to John and Sarah Brewer in Rochester, New York. She moved to Charlotte, NC at a young age with her family. After marrying Charles Woods in 1947, Orange County was home until her death.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Andria W. Bailey (Keith) of Hurdle Mills; two sons: Ray Woods (Linda) of Winterville, GA and Charles Woods (Charlene) of Hurdle Mills; five granddaughters: Heather W. Myers (Joel), Holly W. Ruth (Chris), Jessamy W. Cotten (Kyle), Rebecca W. Yap (Basil) and Britta W. Pillis (Jeff); five great granddaughters: Zora and Guinevere Yap, Annabella Ruth, Leela Pillis, and Mariah Myers; and two great grandsons: Kambric and Blaide Cotten. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Woods; sisters: Ruth, Lillian and Dora; and brothers: Marvin, Walter, and Charlie.
Visitation will be at Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough, NC on Friday, September 13, 2013, at 12 noon to 2 p.m. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in Walker’s Funeral chapel with Daniel Farris and Carl Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery.

Janet Dackerman McKay
DEDHAM, MA — Janet Dackerman McKay passed away peacefully in Dedham, Massachusetts on August 29, 2013 with loving family by her side. She was 89 years old.
Janet was born in Northvale, New Jersey in 1924, the daughter of Harry and Serena Dackerman. She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Henry Lysholm McKay and survived by her children, Joan Callahan of Webster, NY, Pamela McKay of Avon, CO, David McKay of Lambertville, NJ, James McKay of Milton, MA; her sister, Marjorie Carlson; eight grand children; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Janet grew up in suburban Philadelphia, attended Melrose Academy and studied economics at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1945. At Penn she was class President, President of Women’s Student Government, and Head Counselor at Green Lane camp. She captained the Penn woman’s softball team and remained a long term supporter of Penn. For many years Janet served as an Alumni Interviewer, helping prospective students learn more about Penn.    
Both her father Harry and husband Hank were in the equities trading business on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange which kept her engaged in a lifelong interest in business and the stock market. Janet and Hank were former members of Huntington Valley Country Club and Sunnybrook Golf Club, both of Philadelphia, where Janet played Philadelphia Golf Association interclub matches for over 30 years. Janet and Hank lived at The Forest at Duke in Durham for many years and were among the first residents. Janet moved to the Boston area in 2011.
A family remembrance will be held in Surry, ME at a later date to celebrate Janet’s life. Lisa Gale Roberts
CHARLOTTE, NC – Ms. Lisa Gale Roberts, 57, daughter of the late David Bullock and Phyllis Hayes Roberts, died September 9, 2013 in Charlotte, NC.
Lisa was born in Missouri, finished high school in Albemarle, NC and graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC.
Lisa entered the building materials industry in 1985 as a trader for BMA in Greenville, SC. She relocated to Minnesota to begin her career with National Gypsum Company in 1991 in the Minneapolis District Sales Office. After three years, she relocated to the Charlotte Headquarters in December 1994 with the consolidation of the District Sales offices. In 1999, Lisa was promoted to the 800-NATIONAL group as a Technical Representative, and again to Manager, Technical Services in 2001. In this capacity, Lisa has assisted architects, engineers, distributors, contractors, NGC Sales Reps, Customer Account Specialists, and a growing number of mass merchant and homeowner calls with solutions to their project needs.
She was an active member of Dilworth United Methodist Church in Charlotte, serving as past Chair and long time member of the Women’s Circle K. Over the years, she graciously gave her time to the Florence Crittenton Home, The Relatives and The Room In The Inn ministries along with many other volunteer projects.
Ms. Roberts is survived by her sisters, Kaye Roberts of Florida and Betsy (Chris) Miller of Georgia; nephew, Isaac (Cynthia) Van Name; and great-nephew William Van Name of Tennessee.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Bahama, NC. Officiating will be Rev. Grace Hackney. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  There will be a memorial service for Lisa at Dilworth United Methodist Church in Charlotte on September 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Terry Chapel.
