Elwyoming Carter
DURHAM - Funeral Services for Mr. Elwyoming Carter (70), of Durham N.C., will be conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Mosaic Church of Durham, and the interment will follow in the Glennview Memorial Gardens. The family will meet with their friends one hour before funeral services. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Alicia Carter; one son, Mr. Bennie McDonald; three daughters, Ms. Erica Mcdonald, Ms. Karen Carter, Ms. Lisa Carter; five brothers, Mr. William Carter (Francis), Mr. Ronnie Carter (Ella), Mr. Ernest Carter (Teressa), Mr. Golden Carter, Mr. James Carter (Janice); one sister, Mrs. Rosa Womack (Robert); and also grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sue T. Smith
DURHAM — Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the home of her daughter in Wendell, NC.
Born and raised in Smoaks, SC, she moved to Durham in 1943 and worked in various retail positions, retiring from Central Carolina Bank in 1989.
She was a caring mother who loved and enjoyed spending time with her family. Sue had a strong faith in God and Jesus Christ and a strong belief in her church’s mission to serve others. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church for more than 70 years and held many positions there throughout her life. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, Senior Adult of the Year in 1997, and Church Treasurer for 20 years. She also served on the Kitchen Committee for over 40 years, planning, preparing and serving food for meals, receptions and other events. She enjoyed the fellowship of her church friends and gave encouragement to many through those relationships. She was also loved and admired by many friends whom she met through business, community, and local activities. Sue will be dearly missed but her legacy will live on through the lives she touched daily.
She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Smith of Alexandria, VA, Beth Rickman of Durham and Peggy Sullivan of Wendell; her granddaughters, Tai Mercer (Mark), Rae Robinson (Chad), and Alex Thompson (Michael); her great grandchildren, Erin and Emory Mercer and Maddox Thompson. She is also survived by her sisters, Eva Beach and Helen Cooper; her brothers, Herbert Thomas, Ray Thomas, Jake Thomas, and Frankie Thomas, all of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Sept. 9 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham, NC.
The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at First Baptist Church in Durham.

Kattie Bradsher Ross
MEBANE — Kattie Bradsher Ross, 89, daughter of the late Bud and Daisy Yellock Bradsher, died September 7, 2013 at Alamance Health Care in Burlington, N C.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m., Thursday in Lattisville Grove Baptist Church. Family visitation: one hour before the funeral, 1 to 2 p.m.
Burial in church cemetery.
Surviving are sons, Joe Russell (Mary), Marnell Ross (Gloria), Lennell Ross; and daughters, Dorothy Lee Rainey (John), Ella Poole, Kathleen Torain (Wilbert), Julia Ross and Karilla Ross; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Edith Marie Averette Sorrell
GRAHAM - Edith Marie Averette Sorrell, of Graham, died Sunday, September 8, 2013, at The Homeplace of Burlington. Mrs. Sorrell was born in Granville County to the late Dora Rufus Wheeler Averette and Roy Vernon Averette. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wesley Sorrell. Before retiring, Mrs. Sorrell was a technician and bookkeeper at Eure Dental Lab. She was a member of Guess Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Ron Sorrell and wife, Brenda, and Rick Sorrell and wife, Honor; two sisters, Jewel Sauls and Mae Caldwell; a brother, Hunter Averette; six grandchildren, Gabe Sorrell, Tracie Legg, Jennie Grybosky, Pete Sorrell, Christy Dixon and Brad Cook; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Guess Road Baptist Church by Pastor Daniel Tilley. Entombment will be at the New Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors Tuesday from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Guess Road Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Alamance, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215; or to Guess Road Baptist Church, 3102 Guess Road, Durham, NC 27705.

Bessie Paschall
HILLSBOROUGH — Bessie Paschall, 69, daughter of the late Henry and Beatrice Whitted, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Alamance Health Care in Burlington, North Carolina.
The funeral will be conducted 5 p.m., Wednesday in Chavis-Parker Funeral Chapel. Family visitation one hour prior to the service, 4 to 5 p.m.
Interment at a later date.
Survivors are daughter, Edwina Paschall; and grandson, Zion; brother, Louis Whitted (Jackie); sisters, Geneva Yarborough (Melvin) and Mary Ann McNeil; three aunts, Dovie Allen, Vergie Cooper and Laura Hemmingway.
