DURHAM
Dorothy McLean “Dot” Baucom
DURHAM — Mrs. Dorothy McLean “Dot” Baucom, 98, died on July 30, 2013.
She was born January 11, 1915, in New York City, daughter of Dr William L. McLean and Dr Ella Powel McLean.
She was married to Clifford Randall Baucom. She taught Home Economics, Family Life & Child Development, and Ecology at Durham High School until her retirement from teaching in 1975. She was a charter member of St Luke’s Episcopal Church, member of Eastern Star and White Shrine, and Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. She also served as a volunteer counselor with Durham County Crisis Intervention Center.
She was predeceased by her husband and two brothers: Dr. John McLean, and William McLean. She is survived by sons, William, Robert, and John; daughters, Betty Beard and Peggy Baucom; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St Luke’s Episcopal Church in Durham on Saturday, August 10 at 10 a.m., with a reception at the church following the service.

Malcon Grady
DURHAM - Malcon Leon Grady, 58, of Durham, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013 at his home. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, at Markham Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3630 Old Chapel Hill Road, Durham, NC. The family visitation and viewing will be held from 12 -1 p.m.
Malcon leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 29 years, Jacqueline Dorsey Grady; daughter, Shelita Denson (Jermaine); two sons, Brandon and Jared Grady; four grandchildren, E'she, Shyree, Gabrielle, and Braylen; and future daughter-in-law, Dominique Lyn; three sisters, Rosa Tuckson (Donald), Brenda Wilson (Bill), and Thomasene Townsend; and one brother, Terry Townsend; sister-in-law, Yvette Leathers; brothers-in-law, Oscar Dorsey and Elvert Dorsey (Carmen); five nieces, four nephews, three great-nieces, one great-nephew, and one great-great niece; two aunts; special cousins and a host of other family members and friends.
Malcon was predeceased by his father, William Grady; and his mother, Doris Darden; and a sister, Debra Grady.

Mable Carrington Harris Hart
DURHAM — Mable Carrington Harris Hart was born on March 29, 1921 in Rougemont, N.C. to the late Lawrence Harris and Ora Carrington Smith. She departed this life on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Duke Hospice-Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, 2502 NC Hwy 55, Durham, NC at 1 p.m., following the visitation at noon. Pastor James W. Bethea will officiate.


George Jamal McFadden Sr.

Daniel Antwann Osborne
DURHAM — Daniel Antwann Osborne departed his life on August 5, 2013, preceded in death by his mother, Karen Osborne. He leaves behind his father, Daniel Breeden (Tecesia); son, Quate Osborne; daughter, Deja Osborne; four sisters, Tatianna Osborne, Cara Breeden, Kitna Johnson, and Fantahsa Harris; two brothers, Orishio Williams and Deandra Mason; grandparents, Anetta and Daniel Breeden; three very special aunts, Faye McClain, Brenda Adams, Lynette Chance; a host of other relatives, friends and his special friend, Tasha.
Service will be held at Markham Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with visitation at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2013.

Arthur Alvis Rodgers
PITTSBORO — Mr. Arthur Rodgers, 88, passed away at home, Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in Pittsboro, NC.
A native of Chatham County, Arthur was born to the late Willie Joe Rodgers and Fannie Degraffenreidt.
Arthur attended Chatham High School in Siler City in the 1940’s. He left school early to join the U.S. Navy where he was stationed on the USS San Juan in the South Pacific. After WWII, Arthur returned to Chatham County and graduated high school. He was united in marriage for 62 years of love and devotion to the late Mary Dark. He retired from Townsend as a truck driver after 59 years of service.
Arthur served the church as a steward, treasurer, usher, president of the senior choir, and groundskeeper for more than 30 years. He also was a founding member of Saint Paul’s Masonic Lodge #147, serving as Worshipful Master for several years. In addition, he helped found the Knights of Pythagoras through Saint Paul’s Lodge.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by his son, Arthur Rodgers Jr.; and brothers, Gaither, Willie, Jessie, Saul, and Charles.
Survivors include his sons, Brian Rodgers and wife, Gloria, of Pittsboro, William Rodgers of Pittsboro; his daughter, Hope Rodgers-Medina and husband, Daniel; grandchildren Davida Rodgers and John Guerra, Sidney Alexander, Zachary Rodgers, Tressalyn Cordaro, Courtney Rodgers, and William Rodgers Jr.; great-granddaughters Jordyn Rodgers and Riley Guerra.
The family will receive friends at 12 p.m. with a funeral service held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Anthony Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Josephine H. Riggsbee
CHAPEL HILL - Ms. Josephine H. Riggsbee went home to be with the Lord on August 7, 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at l2:30 p.m. at White Rock Holy Church, 932 White Rock Church Road, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27517.
Family visitation will be 30 mins at the church before the funeral.
On Friday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m., there will also be a visitation at White Rock Holy Church.
Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.


Gary F. Tarrant
HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Gary F. Tarrant, 58, died Wednesday evening at his home. Mr. Tarrant was born in Culver City, CA to Grace Tarrant of Columbia, SC and the late Clyde Ray Tarrant. He was employed by Verizon as a Manager.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Brian Tarrant and wife, Susan Ungerleider-Tarrant, of Durham; daughter, Kristy Tarrant and husband, Robert Teixeira, of Efland; sister, Deborah High of Rougemont; brother, Randall Tarrant of Brookfield, MO; grandchildren, Austin and Savannah Teixeira and spouse, Susan Elwood Tarrant.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday at Clements Funeral Chapel in Hillsborough with Pastor Manley Palmer Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.

H. Kaye Ray Lynch
ROUGEMONT - H. Kaye Ray Lynch, "MAMA KAYE", age 79 of 8427 Range Road, died Tuesday, August 7, 2013 at Duke University Hospital. She was born in Wake County to the late Ervin and Zemora Pearce Ray. Mrs. Lynch was preceded in death by her sister, Celestia Jeffreys; and her granddaughter, Monica Blalock Day. Mrs. Lynch married the love of her life, Rev. Billy Lynch, on May 9, 1953. She worked 10 years at John Umstead Hospital, nursed for a while at Granville County Hospital, and she retired from Duke University Medical Center after 20 years of service. Mrs. Lynch accepted Christ at the age of 12, and she and her husband served the Lord in many ways, having pastored at churches in Person County, Granville County, Caswell County and Durham County. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are four children, Brenda Biggins and husband, Gerry, of Plymouth, MA, James R. Lynch and wife, Kris, of Oviedo, FL, Bruce W. Lynch and wife, Janet, of Rougemont, and K. "Fran" Bradsher and husband, C.W., of Rougemont; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 9, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church and other times at the home.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Hagar and Rev. Jim Shelly. Interment will follow in the Lynch Family Cemetery.
Pall Bearers will be Wade Bradsher, Ray Lynch, Gray Bradsher, Shelby Lynch, Mike Bowling and Richard Bowling.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Brad Bowling.

Nina Cook Welch
ROUGEMONT — Nina Cook Welch, 89, of 1410 Jim Latta Road, Rougemont, died at home Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Born in Person County, Mrs. Welch was the daughter of the late Edgar James and Nellie Denny Cook, wife of the late Henry Hulon Welch Sr., and mother of the late Henry Hulon Welch Jr. Mrs. Welch was a retired teacher having taught in Hudson, NC and at Helena and Person High in Person County. She was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church where she previously taught Sunday School, served as clerk, and a member of the WMU. Mrs. Welch was a charter member of the Thomas Person Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was a member of the Gideons International Auxillary and the Person County Retired School Personnel.
Mrs. Welch is survived by her daughter, Barbara Welch Gentry; daughter-in-law, Ellen De'ette Welch; three grandchildren, Jared Anthony Welch and wife, Leah, Jeremy Trent Welch and Bradsher Henry Gentry; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Henry Welch and Hannah Jane Welch.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church by the Rev. Barry Chambers.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-8:30 p.m., Saturday, Brooks & White Funeral Home, Inc., Roxboro.
Pallbearers will be Alvis Oakley, Cecil Oakley, Tommy Brooks, Bob Wade, Jimmy Thomas, and Martin Jeffrey. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews and members of the DAR.
