Wendell Andrews

DURHAM — Wendell Andrews, 53, of Durham, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Duke University Medical Center.   
Wendell served on the faculty at North Carolina Central University in the Criminal Justice Department. He was member of Mill Grove Church of God in Christ where he served as a deacon. He served with distinction as a faithful member of the following organizations: Durham Martin Luther King, Jr. Steering Committee, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., advisor for the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, Healthy Start Academy Board of Directors and Triangle Charter Academy Board of Directors. 
Wendell was an outstanding leader who spent countless hours working closely with students and community groups to make a difference in the lives of those around him. He served as Polemarch of Durham Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., past chairman of the Durham MLK Steering Committee and Secretary of Board of Directors for Healthy Start Academy. 
Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. in B.N. Duke Auditorim on the campus of North Carolina Central University. Kappa Alpha Psi Ceremony will be held at 5:15 p.m.  
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Church of God in Christ, Emporia, Virginia.


Albert Benjamin Bailey
DURHAM — Mr. Albert Benjamin Bailey, age 71, was born November 29, 941 in Durham, NC. He passed away Friday, July 26 2013.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Kyle's Temple. The family will receive friends an half hour before the service and all other times at the home of his sister Aretta B. Roberts, 4101 New Bern Place Durham, NC 27707.
Mr. Bailey is survived by two sons, Dr. Deryl F. Bailey (Mary) of Athens, GA and Kenneth W. Bailey Sr. (Kimberly) of Durham, NC; two grandsons, Kenneth Jr. and Kendrick Bailey; two sisters, Aretta B. Roberts and Estelle B. Henderson (Gerald Sr.) both of Durham; and a host of relatives and friends.

Emma Lee May Candello
DURHAM — Emma Lee May Candello, 80, of Durham died on Monday, July 29, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Frank M. May and Bertha Kelly May. She was a homemaker and married for 62 years. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Elizabeth O’Briant and Bertha Lynn Piper.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard Chester Candello; one daughter, Cathie Martin of Roxboro; three brothers, Charles May of White Lake, NC; Harrison May and Frank May both of Durham; one sister, Frances Journigan of Hopewell, VA; six grandchildren,  Rick Honeycutt Jr., Bobby Oakley Jr., Kent Piper, Kristi Clayton, Amy Martin and Wendy Westbrook; five great-grandchildren, Kymberlee Oakley, Hunter Oakley, Taylor Piper, Ashley Allen and Shelby Clayton.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Pastor Gary Bateman and Pastor Jason Vernon will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Charles May, Robert May, Glenn Switzer, Frank May, Jason May and David Oakley.

Galen Keith Copley
DURHAM — Mr. Galen Keith Copley, 61, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at the VA Medical Center. He was born in Durham County to the late Lester Jefferson Copley and Peggy L. Ellis. Mr. Copley was a Real Estate Agent and was a member at Grey Stone Baptist Church. He served in the Navy.
Galen is survived by his brother, Lester J. Copley of Miami, FL; sister, Angela Weatherspoon of Durham, NC; three nephews; and three nieces.

William Mitchell Jr.
DURHAM — William Mitchell Jr. departed his life on July 21, 2013.
He is survived by wife, Dorothy Mitchell; sons, Rev. Kenneth (Karen) Reid, Fred (Quintelia) Mitchell, Robert (Ernestine) Mitchell; daughter, Genelle Harrell; sister, Beatrice Dunlap; brother, Alexander Mitchell; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at Peace Missionary Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10:30 a.m.

Larry McAdams Davis
June 24, 1935 - July 23, 2013

CHAPEL HILL — Larry McAdams Davis, 78, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at his home in Chapel Hill. Larry is the son of the late William Cleveland Davis and Bertie McAdams-Davis of Durham Co. He was retired from Ralden Limited Partnership where he worked for many years. 
His wife, Betty Jo Davis, preceded him in death and he is survived by his son, Barry Davis of Clayton; and daughter, Robin 
Davis of Chapel Hill. He is also survived by his sister, Valler Ree Riley of Hillsborough; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

CHAPEL HILL— Christine Riggsbee Trice, daughter of the late Fonnie and Eva Riggsbee, was born June 23, 1928 and departed this life on Saturday, July 27, 2013.
Surviving are two nieces, Delois Harding, Winston Salem, NC, Joan Spencer, Durham, NC; three nephews, Wallace Council (Millie), Chapel Hill, NC, James Council (Loretta), Durham, NC, Stephen Council (Linda), Chapel Hill, NC; a devoted caregiver (niece-in-law), Mildred Riggsbee, Chapel Hill, NC; 14 great nieces and nephews, and a host of great great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
