DURHAM

Clinton Wallace Inscoe
DURHAM — Clinton Wallace Inscoe, 88, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Duke University Hospital. He was born in Durham County to the late Genada Bryant Inscoe and the late Fannie Blalock Inscoe. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Frances White; and brothers, Mac Inscoe, Claude Inscoe, Jack Inscoe, and Bobby Inscoe.
Wallace proudly served in the Navy during World War II and married Relia Griffin on March 6, 1946. He was the manager of the Insurance Division for Allenton Realty and Insurance Co. and ended his career at First Insurance Services. He was a lifetime member of the Durham Elks and a member of Willowhaven Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf with his wife and the other members.
Mr. Inscoe is survived by his wife, Relia Griffin Inscoe; daughter, Bonnie Craig and husband, Bick; brother, Harry Inscoe and wife, Helen; granddaughters, Jennifer McLean and husband, Clay, Lori Miller and husband, Miles; and great-grandchildren, Mason Miller and Rachel McLean.
A memorial service will be Sunday, 2 p.m. at Clements Chapel in Durham. The family will have a reception following the service at The Gathering Room at Clements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Cooperative Community Ministries, 10 W. Guilford St., Thomasville, NC 27360.

Anthony "Tony" Umstead
DURHAM — Mr. Anthony "Tony" Umstead, 57, son of the late Norman T. Umstead, Sr. and Shirley Holloway Umstead, passed on Tuesday, April 22, after a brief illness. Besides his mother, he is survived by four sons, three sisters, and five brothers, along with some very special relatives and friends.
Funeral services will held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00pm at Lipscomb Grove Baptist Church in Hillsborough, NC with family visitation beginning at 1:30pm.

Cozetta Walker Weston
DURHAM — Mrs. Cozetta Walker Weston, 91, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 today at Beechwood Cemetery, 3300 Fayetteville St.

Bernice Ophelia Marable Bass Hobson
OXFORD — Bernice Ophelia Marable Bass Hobson was a cheerful lifelong survivor who loved being surrounded by family and friends. She had a capacious interest in people and cherished family gatherings.
After a fruitful life, at the age of 84, Mrs. Hobson departed this life on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Universal Healthcare in Oxford, NC.
Born May 9, 1929, in Oxford to Alexander and Ida Sanford Marable, Ophelia attended public schools in Oxford. Her first marriage was to Archie Bass. To this union two sons were born and later, a second marriage to Shepherd Bland Hobson. She enjoyed travel experiences with her husband who served in many capacities in the United States Army.
Besides her two sons, James (Ida) and Marvin Bass (Gloria), Durham, NC, other survivors include one granddaughter, Tonya Colleena Bass, Durham, NC and two grandsons, Timothy and Kevin Bass, Oxford, NC, and sister, Kate Marable, Henderson, NC.
The family will receive friends at the Wright Funeral Home in Oxford, NC on Saturday evening, April 26, 2014, between seven o’clock and eight o’clock. Services will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at two o'clock at Hardie Grove Baptist Church, US Highway 15 North, Oxford, NC.

Susan Ray Chandler
ROXBORO — Susan Ray Chandler, 53, of Vero Beach, FL, died Feb. 28, 2014. She was the younger daughter of the late Dr. Fred M. Chandler.
Susan was born in Person County. She was a graduate of Person High School in 1979 where she starred on the tennis team. In 1981 she graduated from John Robert Powers School of Modeling in Ft. Lauderdale, FL; she also graduated from South Eastern College, Lakeland, FL. In 1987 she worked in Vero Beach at Private Industry Council where she won an award for her outstanding work.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Jean Chandler.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel, Vero Beach, Fl where a memorial service was held on Tuesday, March 11, 2014.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Red House Presbyterian Church cemetery with the Pastor Dr. Kathryn A. Summers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red House Presbyterian Church Window Fund, 13409 NC 119 N, Semora, North Carolina.

Joyce Beddingfield Ferguson
CARY — Mrs. Joyce Beddingfield Ferguson, 66, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Western Wake Hospital. She was born in Kingsport, TN to the late Eugene Thomas Beddingfield, Jr. and the late Lucille McConnell Beddingfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Spencer Ferguson. She was formerly employed by GTE as an operator.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her sister, Judy Barron of Apex; brother, Tom Beddingfield of Smithfield, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
