Ceola Rosemond Edwards

DURHAM - Mrs. Ceola Rosemond Edwards, 88, of 429 Lakeland St., died Friday, November 30, 2012 at her residence. Her funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 7, at Russell Memorial CME Church, 703 South Alston Ave. Interment will follow in Glennview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 12-1 p.m. one hour prior to the service.

Wanda Stancik McDevitt
DURHAM — Mrs. Wanda Stancik McDevitt, 66, died Thursday afternoon at her home. Mrs. McDevitt was born in Durham Co., the daughter of Edwin Edward Stancik of Seven Lakes, and the late Doris Marie Scoggins Stancik. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the City of Durham. Mrs. McDevitt was a member of Glendale Heights United Methodist Church where she was in the choir and a part of the women's ministry. She also enjoyed volunteering in many other community organizations.
In addition to her father, Mrs. McDevitt is survived by daughters, Michele Vincent of Durham and Mary King of Raleigh; brothers, Glen Stancik of Pinehurst and Kent Stancik of Shelbyville, Ky; and grandchildren, Lukas Vincent, Lindsay King, Ginny Vincent and Olivia King.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Glendale Heights United Methodist Church with the Rev. Glen Stancik and Pastor Adam Brinkley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be designated for Breast Cancer Research and mailed to the Duke Cancer Institute, DUMC Box 3828, Durham, NC 27710.

Ruth Agnes Mitchell Wiggins Woody
DURHAM — Mrs. Ruth Agnes Mitchell Wiggins Woody, 84, died Tuesday morning at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. Mrs. Woody was born January 14, 1928 in Durham County, the daughter of the late Ona C. Mitchell Sr. and the late Nellie Phillips Mitchell. She was a member of Grey Stone Baptist Church, participating in the “Sounds of Joy Choir”. Mrs. Woody worked at Sperry Rand, Wright Machinery Co. for 17 years. After retiring she went into business with her husband, Joseph Woody at Triangle Energy Co.
Mrs. Woody was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph K. Woody; brothers, O.C. Mitchell Jr. and Dr. Norman Mitchell; and sister, Elizabeth (Crissie) Giles.
She is survived by two sons, Phil Wiggins and wife, Faye and Ronald Wiggins and former daughter-in-law, Jacquien Wiggins; sisters, Elsie Ennis and Vertie Perry; four grandchildren, Ron Wiggins (Angela), Brian Wiggins (Laurin), Christy Wiggins (Diane), Stacie Bonin (Josh); and 10 great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held Friday, December 7, at 11 a.m. at Grey Stone Baptist Church with Dr. Clay Waters and The Rev. Robert Bresch officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor at Grey Stone Baptist Church Friday, December 7 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Pauline Thomasson Cheatham

OXFORD — Pauline Thomasson Cheatham, age 91, died December 3, 2012 at her home. She was a native of Granville County and the daughter of the late Leo Bartrell and Sadie Averett Thomasson. Pauline was the wife of the late Sherwood Hester Cheatham.
Pauline retired from Pine State Creamery in Henderson, N.C. and was a lifelong member of Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church in Kittrell, N.C.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Brooks. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Cheatham and wife, Becky, of Oxford; daughter, Kay Yancey and husband, Marty, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Karman Dubois and husband, Chris, of New Orleans, Kevin Cheatham and wife, Bonnie, of Henderson, N.C., David Yancey and wife, Stephanie, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Heather Scherer, Rebecca Dubois, Devon Dubois, Christina Walker, Justin Walker, Mia Yancey, Ella Yancey and Lila Yancey; brother, Nelson Thomasson and wife, Edna Mae, of Oxford. She was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Dement and Selma Paschall; and brother, Woodrow W. Thomasson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home.

Mattie L. Nunn

CARRBORO — Ms. Mattie L. Nunn, age 102, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 1, 2012.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Haw River Baptist Church, Pittsboro.
Family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral at the church.
Burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Ms. Marie Gattis of Carrboro, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other relatives.

Dalled Mae Horton

HURDLE MILLS — Dalled Mae Horton, 84, of 7000 Hurdle Mills Road, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at her home. Born in Person County, daughter of the late William Boyd and Zelia Whitfield Horton, she was graduate of Hurdle Mills High School and retired from Liggett-Myers Tobacco Company. Miss Horton was an avid DUKE fan and attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and Clement Baptist Church.
Surviving are one brother, Russell Horton and wife, Joan of Hurdle Mills; two special nieces, Betsy Crews of Hurdle Mills, Patricia Brown of Rougemont; one special nephew, Anthony Horton of Hurdle Mills; three nieces and one nephew also survive.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Donald Daniel.  Interment will follow at a later date in Person Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and other times at the home.

TEGA CAY, SC — Michael Odas White, 47, of Tega Cay, SC passed away on December 2, 2012. 
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 7 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be privately held at Hillsborough Town Cemetery.
Mike is survived by his father, Odas White; brothers, Russell White (Shari) and Steve White (Patricia); two nieces; three nephews; and two great-nieces. He has been loved by so many and has shown love to many. He has been predeceased by his mother, Judy Medlin White.
