Alice Sneed Dixon
DURHAM — Mrs. Alice Sneed Dixon, 82, died Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Collingswood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockville, MD.
Her service will be conducted on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Burthey Funeral Service, 1510 Fayetteville Street. Interment will follow at the Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday at Burthey Funeral Service from 12:30 to 1 p.m., 30 minutes prior to the service.
Mrs. Dixon is survived by her husband, Arthur Dixon; her son, Jeffrey Dixon; sister, Kittye Wright; sister-in-law, Shirley Sneed; and many nieces and nephews.

Theodore “The’“ Johnson
DURHAM – Funeral services for Theodore “The’“ Johnson, 83, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Community Baptist Church, 4821 Barbee Road. Family visitation, 30 minutes prior to service. Masonic rites and family visitation will also be held on Friday night from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the church.
He was a 1949 graduate of Hillside High School and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a retired 45 years employee of Duke Medical Center. He was also a school bus monitor with the Durham Public Schools.
He attended White Rock Baptist Church as a youngster and later joined Community Baptist Church.
He was well-known in the Masonic community and was a member of Doric Lodge #28, PHA, Durham Consistory #218, PHA and Zafa Temple #176, PHA.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Gladys Brooks Johnson; one son, Alfred Johnson; two sisters, Alice Johnson Davis and Teresa Johnson Daye (Paul); step-siblings, Christopher Johnson and Geneva Johnson; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; special brother and sister, Edward and Ruby Laster; sister-in-law, Mary Pinckney (Joseph); brothers-in-law, John Ross, Nathaniel Richardson and Leo Davis.
Viewing, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Parlor.
Laura V. Langley
DURHAM - Laura V. Langley, 85, born August 8, 1927, in Granville County to the late Jasper Green and Arie Crews.
Laura departed her life on Friday, February 22, 2013 in Duke Medical Center. She is survived by her husband, George E. Langley, of the home.
Visitation with the family will be held at 11 a.m. at the church, and funeral service will start at 12 noon at Union Baptist Church, 904 N. Roxboro St, Saturday, March 2, 2013.

DURHAM - Patricia Ann Richardson, age 67, died on Saturday at Hock Family Pavilion. Sadie McCollum Smith
DURHAM – Funeral services for Mrs. Sadie McCollum Smith, 83, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at White Rock Baptist Church, 3400 Fayetteville Street. Family visitation, 30 minutes prior to service.
She was a 1947 graduate of Hillside High School and a retired data entry operator at Duke Hospital.
She was a member of White Rock Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Jan Smith-Caldwell, Denise Purefoy and Sarah Owens; two sons, Derrick Smith and Larry Smith; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ethel McCollum.

Allan Thomas Summers Sr.
DURHAM - Mr. Allan Thomas Summers Sr. transitioned to his heavenly home on February 25, 2013. He was born on June 9, 1932 to the late Joseph and Bessie Edwards Summers. A lifelong Durham resident, Allan was a 1958 graduate of Hillside High School. He also attended North Carolina Central College, now known as North Carolina Central University. He served in the US Air Force from 1950-1953 and the US Air Force Reserve from 1954-1958. He retired from Duke University in 1996 after 36 years of employment. Prior to retirement, Allan had been a research technician in the Duke University Department of Pathology.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 56 years, Pearline; his daughter, Syvil (Clarence) Burke of Durham; his son, Allan (Rita) Summers Jr. of Knightdale; four grandchildren, Cedric Burke, Mia burke and Larry Keith Jr. of Durham, and Marcus Summers of Rocky Mount; two great grandchildren, Jordan and Jaylin Summers of Rocky Mount; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Allan Summers will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. at North East Baptist church with Reverend Wesley Elam Sr. officiating and Reverend Clarence Burke as eulogist. the family will greet friends beginning at 12 noon prior to the service.

Linda Rose Smith
MEBANE — Mrs. Linda Rose Smith, 68, of 7004 Lebanon Road, Mebane, died at the Hospice Home on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 11:43 p.m.
A native of Durham, she was the wife of Marion “Smitty” Smith, who survives and the daughter of Henry Lewis Rose and Minnie Bell Davis Rose, both deceased. She retired after 25 years at United Methodist Homes which later became Croasdaile Village.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include a sister, Clarice Bullock of Durham; and brother, Edgar Rose of Durham.
There will be no services.

Billy Earl Ford
LEXINGTON, SC — Billy Earl Ford died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and other health issues. Visitation will be 6 to 8 Friday at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at St. David Lutheran Church, West Columbia with burial in the church cemetery. The family will greet guests after the services in the Commons Area.
Billy was born April 3, 1943 in Durham to the late Leo Wallace Ford Sr. and the late Hazel Autry Ford. Billy served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Yorktown. He retired from civil service at Ft. Jackson in 2001 where he was fondly known as the “Duke Man”. Billy was an avid Duke Basketball fan. He was a member of St. David Lutheran Church. Billy served on the Board of Directors of the USS Yorktown Association and was awarded Director Emeritus in 2008.
Surviving are wife, Eleanor Enlow Ford; children, John Daniel Ford and Teresa Ford Little (Morgan) of Washington State, Tina Ford of California; step-children, Barry Stricklin, Jeannie Stricklin and Ben Stricklin of Lexington, SC. Also brothers, Eddie Ford (Judy), Mickey Ford (Glenda), Charlie Ford, Kevin Ford (Sue), of North Carolina, Kelly Ford (Helge), of Germany; sisters, Kathy Barefoot (Jerry), Karen Wade (Steve), Lisa Pitman (Douglas) of NC; sister-in-law, Linda Ford, Saluda, SC; seven grandchildren, Gayle Jensen and Sherry Jensen of Washington State, Jennifer Waters (Chris) of California, Max Puckett, Patrick Duggan, Chandler Stricklin and Cole Stricklin, all of Lexington, SC; seven great-grandchildren; and the Enlow Family of Lexington; extended family members, June Duggan, Cynthia Hill, Shannon Martin, Erik Martin, all of Lexington, SC and Caitlan Roth of Seattle, WA.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo Wallace Ford Jr.; sisters, Helen Gay Wilburn and Mary Ellen Pruitt.

Jeanne Christie Ward
December 13, 1962 – February 26, 2013
CLAYTON - Mrs. Jeanne Christie Ward, 50, of Clayton, died Tuesday evening at Life Care Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC. She was born December 13, 1962 in Durham County. She was preceded in death by her father, Deb Christie.
Mrs. Ward was a loving wife, mother, “Jubs” to her grandchildren, and a dear friend to all she knew.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Antrim Ward; one son, William Kyle Ward and wife, Katherine; one daughter, Monica Darby Ward; her mother, Rima H. Christie, all of Clayton; a brother, Pat Christie of Rougemont; a sister, Susan Hoffman of Durham; three grandchildren, William Ward II, Mackenzie Ward, and Addison Ward; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Sue Ward of Rougemont; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Southside Church, 299 Carlton Street, Clayton, NC. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
