Donald Jack Bain, (Papa)
DURHAM — Mr. Donald Jack Bain, (Papa), 79, of Durham went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 4, 2012.
He worked for the City of Durham 38 years and continued in service for the City for 61 years. He was a member of Calvary Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Linus and Pauline Estes; and brother, AC Bain.
He leaves behind, with their hearts full of love, his wife of 45 years, Judy Bain; sister, Elaine Dement (Nelson); daughter, Jackie Paschall (Fred); step-daughter, Lora Sanders (Chuck); stepson, Dean Lane; two granddaughters, Melissa Hancock and Elizabeth Woods Worsham (Jeffrey); one grandson, Cameron Sanders; one great-granddaughter; and two great-grandsons; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Pastor Virgil Nolan will officiate. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Edward Peter Daniels
DURHAM - Mr. Edward Peter Daniels, 79, of 304 Dunstan Ave. died Sunday, December 2, 2012. His funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, at St Mark AME Zion Church, 531 South Roxboro St. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday From 12-1 p.m., one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Daniels is survived by three children, Alicia D. Lewis, Randall and Brian Daniels. His wife, Barbara P. Daniels, preceded him in death.

Mae Bass Eaton
Durham - Mrs. Mae Bass Eaton, 86, departed this life on December 4, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Henry Eaton.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Bell-Yeager Free Will Baptist Church, 128 East Cornwallis Road, Durham; visitation, one hour prior to the service.

DURHAM - Mrs. Brenda Fowler, 63, passed away on Wednesday at Hock Family Pavilion. Mrs. Fowler was born in Durham Co., the daughter of the late Clinton Howard Fowler and Margaret Estelle Ferrell Fowler. She attended First Baptist Church in Durham for many years, where she was a Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Fowler was employed by Monumental Life where she worked for more than 25 years and she worked 11 years at Durham OB-GYN.
Mrs. Fowler is survived by her aunt, Emma Proctor; cousins, Mark Proctor and Michael Williams; and friend, Brenda Evans.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham by Rev. Andy Winn. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Peggy Minton Sauls
DURHAM — Peggy Minton Sauls, 78, of Durham passed away, December 5, 2012, at Duke Hospice from complications associated with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born in Durham on February 5, 1934 where she lived her entire life. Peggy graduated from the Durham Public School System and worked at the VA Hospital and then the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences at RTP. Everyone who knew her knew her sense of humor, honesty and passion for family, friends, and “antiquing”.
She was survived by her two daughters, Debbie Roberts and husband, Wayne, Diane Long and husband, Gene; son, Gary Sauls; grandchildren, Shelley Roberts, Jeff Roberts and wife, April, and Crosby Long and wife, Lori; great-grandchildren, Mitch and Blaire Roberts and Ellie Long; sister, Faye Miller and deceased husband, Roger, of Arden, N.C.; and brother, Wayne Minton and wife, Leanne, of Land O’Lakes, Fla. She was predeceased by her parents, Lester and Creola Minton; sister, Clara Jackson; brothers, Bill Minton and Richard Minton; and grandson, Chris Roberts. Graveside services will be held on Monday December 10, 2012, 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, in Durham. Visitation with family immediately after the service. A special thanks to Mary Berini and Sandy Jordan for their endearing friendships and support over these tough years. Kenneth N. Schuler Jr.
DURHAM - Kenneth N. Schuler Jr. passed on November 26, 2012. He was a devoted husband and father. On March 30, 1947, he was born to the late Kenneth and Charlotte Elizabeth Schuler. He was a former vice President of Systems Programming at North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Vena; son, Jordan; stepson, Jonathan Tinnen; and a host of many friends.
A service is planned for Friday, December 7, 2012 at Grace Baptist church, 1004 N. Mangum St., at 12 noon.
Services are entrusted to Scarborough and Hargett Memorial Chapel and Garden.
Nettie Cooper Tompkins
DURHAM - Mrs. Nettie Cooper Tompkins, age 96, of 729 Cook Rd. passed on November 29, 2012.
She is survived by three daughters, Ella P. Cooper, Allene Tompkins and Christine Holmes (Levi).
Mrs. Tompkins' service will take place on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11 a.m.
The family will receive friends at Gethsemine Baptist Church, 906 S. Roxboro St., one hour prior to the service.

Dr. George Henry Williams Jr.
DURHAM - Dr. George Henry Williams Jr., son of the late Rosa Bradley Williams and George Williams, of 428 Denton St. died on Monday, December 3 at Camellia Garden after an extended illness. Dr Williams earned his BS degree from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. He received his MS degrees from N.C. State University, North Carolina Central University, and Duke University, where he also earned a Ph.D.
His work experience included Joe Toler High School, Granville County and Florida A&M, Tallahassee, Florida, and he retired from NCCU after 37 years on the faculty there. He was a U.S Army veteran and member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Hicks Williams; one son, George H. Williams III "Hank"; one daughter, Elizabeth Williams Simmons (Joe); three grandchildren, Lovieree Elizabeth Simmons, Joe Lee Simmons, Jane'e Simmons;
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 11:30 - 1 with rites by Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Public viewing will be Friday from 10-7 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Parlor.
HILLSBOROUGH - Thelma Holman, daughter of the late Willie Holman and Roberta Thompson Holman, died December 4, 2012 in Rose Manor.
Memorial service will be Friday, 11 a.m. at Dickerson Chapel AME Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Harvey’s Chapel AME Church, 2507 Dimmock’s Mill Road, Hillsborough 27278.
Interment will be in Hillsborough Town Cemetery.

Arthur Holton Summey
HILLSBOROUGH — Arthur Holton Summey, 74, died on December 4, 2012. He was a member of the Chapel Hill Police Department for 30 years. After retiring in 1990, he served as an Orange County Magistrate for 15 years. He retired in 2005. Mr. Summey was a member of Farrington Road Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Secretary.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mildred Ferrell Summey; one son, Arthur Keith Summey (Allison) of Raleigh; three daughters, Sharon S. Linthicum (Chuck) of Kure Beach, Wanda S. Sykes (Dwane) of Prospect Hill, and Kimberly S. Overton of Hillsborough; one sister, Barbara S. Penland (Billy); four brothers, Gene Summey (Diane), Bobby Summey (Meg), Tommy Summey and Jimmy Summey (Deborah); eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Curry and Faydene Summey; one brother, Harris Summey; and one grandchild, Lauren Wiseman.
Funeral services will be held at Farrington Road Baptist Church on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery on Legion Road, Chapel Hill. Casket bearers will be Jonathan Penland, Jarrod Penland, Steve Summey, Kevin Summey, Edward Summey and John Summey.
