William S. “Bud” Childress
DURHAM — William S. “Bud” Childress, 77, of Durham, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 at his residence. Born in Bland County, Virginia, Mr. Childress was the son of the late Taulby Basil Childress and Nellie Jane Walker Childress. Mr. Childress was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ramsey Childress; sister, Ola Barrow; and brother-in-law, Riley Sarver. Mr. Childress was retired after 34 years as a service technician with GTE Telephone Co. retiring in 1998. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was also a Mason with Durham Lodge #352 A.F. & A.M.
Mr. Childress was an avid trout fisherman, NASCAR fan and Tar Heel fan.
Mr. Childress is survived by a son, William S. “Billy” Childress and wife Tina; three brothers, Bob Childress, of Alta Vista, VA, David Childress, of West Columbia, SC, and Wayne Childress and wife Ruth, of Pulaski, VA; two sisters, Eddith Stowers, of Radford, VA, and Marian Sarver, of Roxboro; and four grandchildren, Grant Childress, Jordan Childress, Cailey Childress and Kasey Childress.
A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. on Thursday at Massey’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Kathy Kirkpatrick officiating. The family will receive friends at the home on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 6, 1714 Legion Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27515 or to V.F.W. Esther Sikes Daniel
DURHAM — Mrs. Esther Sikes Daniel, 99, a former resident of Durham, died on Saturday, August 2, 2014.
Mrs. Daniel was born in Durham on July 24, 1915, to the late Robert L. Sikes and Sallie C. Sikes. She retired from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company and was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Daniel.
She is survived by her son, Arthur Daniel (Becky Winkler) of Raleigh; daughter, Glynda Bradshaw (Jim) of N. Topsail Beach; and two grandchildren, Melanie Oliver (Rodger) and Tracy Duke (Michael).
Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Don Christian will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m., before the service at the funeral home.

Golan Samson Frazier, Sr.
DURHAM — Mr. Golan Samson Frazier, Sr., age 90, of Durham, NC, passed away on August 1, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center in Washington, DC. His funeral services will be on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11 am at St. Joseph’s A.M.E. Church located at 2521 Fayetteville Street, Durham, NC. There will be a viewing one hour before the services. Averi T. Mincy
DURHAM — Funeral services for Averi T. Mincy will be held Thursday, August 7, at 1 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Parlor. The family visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
Averi leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Mrs. Annice Mincy Simpson; stepfather, Ronnie M. Simpson; two brothers, Kenneth DeWayne Mincy, Jr. and Carlton Anthony Halliday; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Marguerite Louise Williams Hayes; two aunts, Mrs. Marcia Bright and Mrs. Effie Hayes; one uncle, Mr. Reuben Hayes; an aunt-in-law, Ms. Bernice Simpson; and, a host of other relatives. Averi also leaves to cherish her memory, her Mom Harris and Dad Harris (Josephine L. Harris and Carroll M. Harris), who shared in her life for more than twenty (20) years.

Antonio Lamont "Big Tony" Yates
DURHAM — Mr. Antonio Lamont "Big Tony" Yates, son of Alonzo Yates and Shelia Taylor-Yates departed this life on July 30, 2014. He leaves to cherish two brothers, two sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary United Church of Christ, 1715 Athens Avenue, Durham, NC. The family visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
