Harry Thomas Buchanan, III
DURHAM — Harry Thomas Buchanan, III, 62, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at his home. He was born in Wake County to the late Harry Thomas Buchanan, Jr. and the late Evelyn Jones Buchanan.
Mr. Buchanan is survived by his son, James Christopher Buchanan; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Buchanan; brother, Steve Buchanan; and former spouse, Linda Buchanan.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Shirley Ann Crabtree Coe
DURHAM — Mrs. Shirley Ann Crabtree Coe, 81, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, March 9, 2014, with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Coe was born September 10, 1932 to Mattie C. Whitaker in Durham, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Odell Coe. Until her declining health, she was still an active member of Greystone Church. She also still worked part-time at the family heating and air conditioning business.
Mrs. Coe was truly a remarkable woman who always opened her home with love and always put everyone first before herself. She loved cooking, shopping, decorating the house and always made every occasion and holiday special for her family and close friends. She will be truly missed by everyone whom she touched.
Surviving family are her loving daughters, Deborah C. Marsh (Roland) of Durham, NC, Cathy C. Dickey (Roy Birdzell) of Virginia Beach, VA; sons, Rodney F. Coe and Mark W. Coe of Durham, NC and Gregory S. Coe and partner, Juanita (JoJo) Ponsones, of Raleigh, NC; her beloved Havaneses, Sushi and Mango; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Greystone Church with Pastor Brian Barndt officiating. A private burial is planned.
A special thanks to Cathy and Roy for all of their love and support in taking care of mom in her final days; and a special thanks to JoJo for all of his nursing skills and helping mom as well.

Narda Decker
DURHAM — Narda Decker, 82, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at her home in Durham.
A native of Binghamton, NY, she was the daughter of Earl S. Baldwin and Anna E. Baldwin. She graduated from St. Luke Hospital’s School of Nursing in New York, NY. She spent her entire career as a Registered Nurse dedicated to caring for others. She was last employed at Duke Hospital in the Apheresis Lab.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she passed on her love of books and lifelong learning to all who knew her. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Decker is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald L. Decker, and her daughters, Carol Durkin (Kevin), Diane Decker, Amy Dodd (Bill), Lisa Shaffer (Walter), and Joanne Terrell (Bryan). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Eric Blegen (Stacey), Ryan Dodd (and fiancé Kirby Butler), Philip Dodd, Nathaniel Dodd, Kelsey Dodd, Lauren Shaffer, Andrew Terrell (Tiffany), and by a great-grandson, Titus Terrell. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Barbara Keyes, and a brother-in-law, Jim Gennarelli. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law, Linda Gennarelli, and a beloved grandson, Zachary Shaffer.
The family would like to thank Duke Hospice for their excellent care, and also Providing Loving Care of Pembroke, NC. She was blessed to be cared for by Debbie and Vanessa in her final year. Their kind, patient, and gentle help allowed Mrs. Decker to pass peacefully at home surrounded by her family. We are forever in their debt.
A private memorial service will be held for the family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ASPCA or to Doctors Without Borders.

Rose Marie Carpenter Dennis
DURHAM — Mrs. Rose Marie Carpenter Dennis, age 87, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at Conway Medical Center following an illness.
She is survived by her two daughters, Bobbie Lammert Russell and husband, Billy of Durham, NC and Pam Parker and husband, Jim of Little River, SC.

Mary Ann Gilleskie
DURHAM — Mary Ann Gilleskie, 77, won her long, courageous battle with cancer when her Lord and Savior called her home on March 11, 2014.
After moving to Durham from Bridgeville, PA, Mary Ann and her husband of fifty years, the late Alexander Gilleskie, raised four children: Mark Gilleskie of Blowing Rock, NC; Gary Gilleskie of Chapel Hill, NC; Mary Lynne Hunt of Wilmington, NC; and Alicia Lupton of Raleigh, NC.
When most of her children were in high school, Mary Ann graduated from North Carolina Central University with a degree in nursing. Her straight As and valedictorian status at NCCU exemplified her passion and caring as a nurse at Durham Medical Center and Durham Regional Hospital for the next 20+ years.
In addition to the joy provided to her by her faith, her children, her children-in-law (Margaret, Donna, Ronnie, and Kevin), and her dear friends, her joy in recent years was multiplied by her eight grandchildren: Xander, Matt, Molly, Maggie, Smith, Drew, Anna Michael, and Olivia. We will miss the warm and welcoming atmosphere she always provided, yet strive to continue what she so thoughtfully taught by her example.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Fr. Thanh Nguyen presiding. Burial will be held in St. Matthew Cemetery and a reception will follow in the church parish hall.
Friends may visit Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham.

DURHAM — Geneva Christine Harris, 92, born in Goldsboro, NC, departed her life on March 8, 2014.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Shakur-Bey, four granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren and a host of friends and family.
Services will be at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 1:00 pm with visitation at noon.

DURHAM — Anthony Edwin Judd, 55, departed this life on March 8, 2014.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Audrey M. Ferrell, three brothers, four sisters, sixteen nephews, thirteen nieces, three great-nephews and one great-niece.

Gail Lane Poe
DURHAM — Gail Lane Poe, 67, passed away Monday, March 11, 2014 at her home. She was born in Dillon, SC to the late Olen Lane and the late Kathleen Tyndall Lane. She was also predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Lane.
Mrs. Poe is survived by her husband, Philip Mincey Poe; sons, Jason Poe (Christa), Justin Poe (Julie); grandchildren, Caeden, Corbyn, Sophie Poe; sister, Jean Thompson (Don); sister-in-law, Michelle Lane and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday at Pleasant Green United Methodist Church. Visitation will follow service.

Nellie Mae Allen Webster
DURHAM — Nellie Mae Allen Webster died Tuesday, March 11, 2014. She was a native of Durham County and the daughter of the late Juanita and William Allen. She attended the Durham schools. At the age of 14 she worked in Eno Mills in Hillsborough. She married Herbert Webster. She retired from Burlington Industries after 34 years of service.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia W. Smith and husband (Bob), and sister, Juanita Jones. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband, one brother, Cornelius Allen, two sisters, Sarah A. Dixon and Frances A. Wilson Thompson.
A graveside service will be held 11 AM Friday in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM Thursday in Walker’s Funeral Home of Hillsborough.


Virgie Pennell Beeson
OXFORD — Virgie Pennell Beeson, 92, a resident of 216 Maple Drive, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the home of her niece, Annie W. Thomas.
Survivors include one niece, Ann W. Thomas.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 2 pm at Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church, Fairport Road, Oxford, NC.

Douglas Allen Minor
CREEDMOOR — Douglas Allen “Al” Minor, 65, a lifetime resident of the Creedmoor-Butner area passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at his home.
A native of Granville County, the son of the late Henry Hunt Minor and Nellie B. Freeman Minor. He was of the Baptist faith and retired from Mutual Distributing Company in Raleigh. He was an avid Nascar fan.
Memorial services will be private.
Surviving are his wife of forty-seven years, Linda (Toni) Jackson Minor of the home, a daughter, Lisa Minor (Scott) of Oxford, a son, Douglas (Doug), Allen Minor Jr. (Michelle) of Butner, three grandchildren, Bailey, Carly and Jaxson Minor and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Ellis, and two brothers, Jimmy and Bryant Minor.
A visitation will be held, Friday evening, March 14, 2014 from 7:00-8:30 PM at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home of Doug Minor.

Robert Dodds Meddock, Jr.
HILLSBOROUGH — Robert Dodds Meddock, Jr. died Monday, March 10, 2014. He was employed by Duke University. He was a pioneer in hot air ballooning and manufactured them in Statesville.

Teresa Zander Weddle
HILLSBOROUGH — Teresa Zander Weddle of Hillsborough, N.C., died peacefully at Duke Hospital on Feb. 25, 2014, with her husband, son and Julie Peters at her side. She was born in Independence, Mo., on April 16, 1945, to John and Lora Lue Zander. She is survived by her husband of forty-six years, Ronald M. Weddle; son, Nathaniel F. Weddle of Durham, N.C.; daughter, Rachel A. Weddle and three grandchildren, Olivia, Elyana, and Noah Steinberg of Boulder, CO.; sister, Lora Belle (Lollie) Reed of Lee’s Summitt, Mo.; and brother, John Frederick (Rick) Zander of Kansas City, Mo.
Teri met her future husband, Ronald M. Weddle, in fourth grade at Bryant School in Independence. After Teri's graduation from Missouri University with a bachelor's degree in nursing, Teri and Ron married on June 24, 1967, in Berkeley, Calif. The family moved to Durham, N.C., in 1969. Teri received her master's degree in public health nursing from UNC in 1976. From 1971 to 2012 she worked as an RN at Duke Medical Center. For most of that time she was manager of the Employee Health Clinic. She received a heart transplant in 2011.
Teri loved horses (she owned three over the years), music, and fine literature. When she died, she was president of the book club she had belonged to for 43 years. A memorial celebration is planned for family and friends in both Durham, N.C., and Independence, Mo. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Doctors without Borders.
