DURHAM
Robert Franklin Anna
Durham – Mr. Robert Franklin Anna, 66, died Wednesday morning at Duke University Hospital.
Robert was born and raised in Boonville, NY. He was educated in the Boonville Central Schools and graduated from SUNY-Geneseo. He was employed for many years with Reliance Insurance Company as an underwriter, but after relocating to Durham, Bob changed his career and became a third-grade teacher with Durham Public Schools. Here, he found the work he loved. He taught first at W. G. Pearson and then at Glenn Elementary School. Bob was also very active in the Durham community, volunteering with Catholic Charities, CAPPS, Parents without Partners and Knights of Columbus. He helped organize St. Matthew's participation with the Durham CROP Walk. He also volunteered his time as a parent, raising two foster children. Bob loved the outdoors, especially hiking and camping. One of his favorite places was Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia.
He also loved music and cheerfully sang off key, he sprinkled his letters and photos with smiley doodles and upbeat words like "super," and he never knew a stranger. He is very loved.
Bob is survived by his wife of 23 years, Colleen Horsley Anna; daughters, Cara Anna of New York, NY, Amanda J. Carr of Sedley, VA; sons, Robert F. (Robbie) Anna II, and his wife, Cindy, of Boonville, NY; Nick J. Hunnicutt of Durham, NC; brother, Richard M. Anna, and his wife, Carol, of Boonvile, NY; and his grandchildren, Zachary Anna, Lilly and Rose Carr.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. W. Douglas Lain Jr. Burial will take place at a later date in Draper City Cemetery, Draper, South Dakota. In remembrance of Bob, the family would like to request casual attire for Bob’s funeral service. Immediately following the service, the family will greet visitors at the church.

Beverly Ann Smith Evans
DURHAM - Beverly Ann Smith Evans, was born November 13, 1943 in Guilford County, NC to parents, Miranda Margaret Stephens Smith and Junius Smith, both deceased.
Following a two-year struggle with complications related to cancer, Beverly died on Monday, April 22nd at home, surrounded by family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, William P. (Bill) Evans; one son, Paul Franklin of Greensboro, NC; one daughter, Mira Williams (Eric Jerome) of Decatur, GA; five grandsons; three granddaughters; and a host of other family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 29th at St. Joseph AME Church, 2521 Fayetteville St., Durham, NC. The Rev. Dr. Philip R. Cousin Jr. officiating.

Gennett Gainey Langston
DURHAM — Gennett Gainey Langston was born on January 25, 1930 in South Carolina to the late Visteria Campbell. She fell asleep in death on April 19, 2013 at Kendra Rehabilitation Center.
In 1973, she married Quincey Langston, who preceded her in death.
Her services will be Saturday, April 27th at the Gethsemane Baptist Church, 906 S. Roxboro St. Visitation will be from 12 p.m to 1 p.m. Services will begin at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in the Glennview Memorial Park. Services entrusted to Scarborough & Hargett Memorial Chapel and Gardens.


JeJuan Jontiel "Jay-Jay" Taylor Jr.
DURHAM — JeJuan Jontiel "Jay-Jay" Taylor Jr., age 19, departed from us on Thursday, April 18, 2013.
He is survived by his mother, Nakecha Snipes Taylor; father, JeJuan Jontiel Taylor Sr. (Christellar); 10 sisters; a maternal and paternal grandmother; a maternal grandfather; two great grandmothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins; and a host of relatives and friends.
JeJuan enjoyed life to the fullest! His smile and sense of humor brought joy to everyone.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Apostolic Revival, 1207 Angier Avenue. Apostle John Bennett will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 to 1 p.m., one hour prior to the service.

Virda L. Thrift ("TUT")
October 17, 1923 - April 23, 2013

CARRBORO — Virda L. Thrift ("TUT") died on Tuesday, April 23 at Hospice Beacon Place in Greensboro. She was a lifelong resident of Carrboro.
Tut was the daughter of Wade and Bertha Thrift, sister of Roger Thrift of New Bern and sister of Vera Thrift Rabin of Greensboro.
She was predeceased by her parents; and brother, Roger and is survived by her sister, Vera; Roger's wife, Fran; and many nieces and nephews.
Tut was a member of Carrboro Methodist Church for 84 years and was a daycare center teacher at the Church for many years.
She was a living example of the Christian virtue of caring for others as she did first for her father afflicted with Lou Gehrig's disease and then for her sister Vera in Greensboro.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 3 p.m. at Westwood Cemetery, Carrboro (Davie Road).
Family and friends are invited to gather after the service.

Starnes Eli Weaver
CARRBORO — Starnes Eli Weaver, 86 of Carrboro, NC passed away April 23, 2013 at the UNC Memorial Hospital. He was son of Harry Lee Weaver and Euria Ellen Teague.
Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife, Mildred Wright Weaver; one sister, Janice Weaver Jordan; three sons, David Starnes Weaver, spouse, Cynthia Zeman, grandson, Tiber Zeman-Weaver, granddaughter, Claire Zeman-Weaver; son, Karl Richard Weaver; son, Kevin Lee Weaver; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27, at Carrboro United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Deborah Anne Nystrom
CARY — Deborah Anne Nystrom, 48, of Cary, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013. A native of Wake County, Deborah was born April 5, 1965 to Janice Massengale Green and the late Robert Edwin Green. 
Deborah's compassionate and caring nature was an asset to her in her work as an emergency room nurse at Duke Hospital, Wake Medical Center, Rex Healthcare, and Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles. She was a survivor of both a pancreas and kidney transplants and was always trying to be an encouragement to people on their journeys. She was also a dog lover and will be greatly missed by her two dogs, Cody and Brendon.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew Nystrom; children, Christopher Nystrom and his wife, Kathryn, Nicole Alyse Nystrom, and Michael Nystrom and his wife, Virginia, and their daughter, Katelyn Marie Nystrom; mother, Janice Starnowski and her husband, Jerry; second father, Winfred V. Plyler and his wife, May; step brothers, Jeff Plyler and wife, Bonita, Sgt. John Starnowski USMC and wife, Sgt. Suzanne Starnowski USMC, Matthew Starnowski, and Luke Starnowski; and step sister, Kristin S. Barnes and husband, Josh.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 28, 2013, at 3 p.m., at Covenant Christian Church, 2911 SW Cary Pkwy, Cary, NC 27513.
