DURHAM
Leroy Caesar

DURHAM — Leroy Caesar passed Thursday, January 24th. He was a native of Durham.
A celebration of life service will be Wednesday, January 30th, at the Mt. Calvary Light House Church, 500 Driver Ave.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Services will start at 12 p.m. The family will be at 207 Nichols Farm Dr.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 2nd, at 12 p.m. at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 934 Gorsuch Ave., Baltimore, Md.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Flora Caesar; 10 daughters; three sons; two sisters; two brothers; and a host of grands and great grands. He was preceded in death by two sons; and two daughters.
Viewing will be held today from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Scarborough & Hargett Chapel.


Rev. Percy Robert Jones 
DURHAM — Rev. Percy R. Jones passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at Wake Memorial, Cary.
A Celebration of Rev. Percy Jones' life will be held Thursday at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 2200 S. Alston Avenue, Durham. Visitation will take place at 12 p.m. and the funeral will begin at 1 p.m. The interment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Durham.
Rev. Jones was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Helen N. Jones; and a daughter, Gwendolyn Jones. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Jones; grandchildren, William C. Jones, Sabreya Jones; and several great grandchildren. 


Carolyn Faye Miller Warden 
DURHAM — Mrs. Carolyn Faye Miller Warden, 83, died Friday afternoon at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Warden was born and raised in Durham. She graduated from Hope Valley High School and attended Duke University. She was retired after many years as a bookkeeper with Coppridge Urological Group. She was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, being involved with the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Warden is survived by her children, Joel M. Craig, and his wife, Kimberly, of Durham, Jeffrey C. Craig of Raleigh, Julie C. Lebria and her husband, Stephen, of Raleigh, and Janis C. Warren and her husband, Arthur of Charleston, SC; she is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and her sisters-in-law, Louise D. Miller of Durham, and Faye M. Miller of Arden, NC.
Mrs. Warden was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon C. and Minnie Smith Miller; husband, Dalton H. “Pete” Warden; and her brothers, Gordon C. Miller Jr., Donald S. Miller, and Roger E. Miller.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating will be the Rev. Taylor Mills. Burial will be at a later time at Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, 215 N. Church Street, Durham, NC 27701.

Jean Ferguson Porterfield 

MEBANE — Jean Ferguson Porterfield passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
A funeral service will be held at Mebane United Methodist Church, 200 South Fourth Street, Mebane, on Thursday, January 31st at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church parlor from 1 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to A.L. Wallace Maxwell Womble 

CARRBORO — Wallace Maxwell Womble, 89, of Carrboro died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at home after an extended illness with family by his side. He was born January 24, 1924 to Robert A. Womble and Etta Thrift Womble in Carrboro. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Poe Womble; his children, Jerry Womble Carpenter (Ron) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Eddie Womble (Settle) of Carrboro, and Gina Womble Walker (David) of Chapel Hill; his four grandchildren, Ron Carpenter II (Joelle), Mary Hamlin Womble, Fletcher Womble Kieckbusch (Paul) and Wade Womble; and one great grandchild, Carp; his sister, Nan Womble Carroll; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wallace was one of the first employees hired at NC Memorial Hospital in 1952 as Purchasing Agent, later becoming Director of Housekeeping until 1968 when he left the hospital to serve his community in a career he loved as Manager and Funeral Director of Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Wallace was active in the community where he was one of the first ambulance drivers providing emergency services in the area in the days when emergency transport was handled through the funeral home. He also worked with voter registration, played and umpired both school and recreational league baseball and softball, as well as participated on the church league dartball team. He was a lifelong member of Carrboro United Methodist Church where he served on many boards, helped with fund raising activities and sang in the choir.
Wallace was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Womble; and sisters, Elizabeth Womble Perry and Edna Womble Lloyd.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks and gratitude for the many years of medical care and friendship by Dr. James Bryan, to Mrs. Elizabeth Walker who gave him the opportunity to serve his community as Funeral Director, to Connie 
Matlock who has loved, supported and cared for him and the whole family for the past year and a half as well as the care, love and support by and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Duke Hospice Hock Family Pavilion Inpatient Facility.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Walker’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Carrboro United Methodist Church.

Margaret E. (Foster) Jones 

GREENSBORO — Margaret (daughter of the late Roy and Margaret Foster of Durham) passed on Friday, January 25, 2013 in Greensboro. Those she leaves behind are daughters – Gayle Taliaferro of Durham, Michelle Jones-Keeter and Janine Jones of Greensboro; and her son, Elder KeVin Jones of Kansas City, MO. Also, her siblings: Roy Foster Jr., of Durham, Deria Foster-Moore and Gayle F. Magellan of Greensboro. Additionally she leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchild, and relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2715 Horse Pen Creek Road, Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro – 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro NC 27405.


Leonard Preston Taylor Jr.
PORT RICHEY, FLA. — Leonard Preston Taylor Jr., 68, died Saturday, Jan. 26th at Southern Pines Rehab. Mr. Taylor was born in Durham County, the son of the late Leonard Preston Taylor Sr. and the late Margie Odessa Taylor. He was retired from Power Train Company of Loves Park, Illinois.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his sons, Jeffrey Brian Taylor, Torby Carson and Tonya Carson. Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Penny Wayman Taylor; five grandchildren. He has three sisters, the late Nancy Bragg of Durham, Sue Green of Roxboro, Diane Solomon (husband, Don) of Roxboro, Becky Ragan and Bo, of Rougemont; one brother, the late Kenneth Richard Taylor.
