David St. Pierre (Pete) Dubose
DURHAM — David St. Pierre (Pete) Dubose, Jr. age 82, died Saturday, afternoon April 19, 2014 at UNC Hospitals
A celebration of his life will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Tuesday April 22, 2014 at 11:30 a.m.
A reception will be held at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Caring House Endowment Fund, which he founded, at 2625 Pickett Road, Durham NC 27705 or Church of the Good Shepherd, 3741 Garrett Road Durham NC 27707.

Glossie Mae Phyllis Pratt Johnson
DURHAM — Glossie Mae Phyllis Pratt Johnson, 81, of 512 Finley Street, Durham, NC, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, Friday, April 18, 2014. She is the daughter of the late Thomas Haywood and Elouise Nunn Pratt. A son, Frankie Eugene Johnson, and grandson, Dezzie Denard Johnson, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her best friend and husband, J. C. “Chris” Johnson; two sisters, Pamela Pratt and Etta Mae Hayes of Durham; six (6) loving children, Rev. Calvin Johnson (Monica), Thomas Gregory “Wine” Johnson, Amy Diane Johnson, Wayne Eddie Johnson (Kimberly), Ida Delores Johnson, all of Durham, and John McIntosh, of Sanford; a daughter-in-law, Diann Johnson of Durham; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Pratt and Lee Esther Johnson of Durham; seven (7) nephews; four (4) nieces; 19 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
She graduated from Hillside High School and earned a degree in Nursing from Durham Technical Community College. Ms. Johnson worked for many years as a private duty Nurse. She also served dutifully for many years as a member of the Nursing staff at Duke University Medical Hospital and Lincoln Memorial Hospital, eventually retiring from the latter medical facility.
She joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until her homegoing. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Ministry and always provided assistance with other ministries when asked and needed.
To her family she was a wonderful confidant, friend and great mother. She will be forever remembered for her warm smile.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 2508 Crest Street, Durham, NC. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Private burial will take place at Glennview Memorial Gardens, Apex Highway, Durham, NC.

DURHAM — Mr. Willie Ruffin, 66, of Brooklyn, New York and formerly of Durham died Tuesday, April 12, 2014. His service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Burthey Funeral Chapel, 1510 Fayetteville St. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday in the chapel from 12-1pm one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Ruffin is survived by his wife, Estelle F. Ruffin, two daughters, Erineta Daise and Kendra Ruffin-Free; and two sisters, Beulah L. Ruffin and Barbara R. Ross.

DURHAM — Funeral services for John Thomas Woods, will be held Tuesday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Bell-Yeager FWB Church. The family visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
Survivors include wife, Helen Robinson Woods; one daughter, Rietta Laverne Woods Kenion (Paul); goddaughter, Angie Chandler; 2 sisters, Celia Poteat and Carolyn Woods; 2 brothers, Lennie Woods and James Clemmon Woods; 2 grandchildren, 2 greatgrandchildren, host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
Public viewing today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Blackwell Funeral Home located at 1292 Rauhut St.
