Roberta (Robbie) Goetz Cox
DURHAM — Roberta (Robbie) Goetz Cox, known for her avid gardening, her welcoming and nurturing presence, and for being a hostess extraordinaire, died suddenly at the age of 77, on Monday April 7, 2014.
Born in Arlington, Virginia, Robbie was a first generation American born to Robert Fredrich Goetz (from Germany) and Adriana Maria denTurk Goetz (from the Netherlands). She had an identical twin and one older sister.
In 1957 Robbie married Lyndon Sheridan Cox, and together they raised three children in Silver Spring, Maryland. Robbie delighted in being a homemaker and stay at home mom. Her hobbies included singing in the choir, directing in the church’s drama ministry, camping, cooking, and working in the garden.
Robbie was an administrative assistant and editor for the Food and Drug Administration for many years. Herloving spirit created opportunities to support people from various countries as they learned English and got established with schools, jobs, and family.
Robbie and Lyn retired to North Carolina in 1988, where they lived in Garret Farms and Downing Creek. Later, as a widow,Robbie moved to Emerald Pond Senior Living Community in Durham. Wherever she went,Robbie was well known and greatly loved. The life of every party, Robbie’s creativity, enthusiasm, and love of photography enhanced every activity. At Emerald Pond her caring and thoughtful personality embraced staff and residents alike.
Robbie was preceded in death by her husband, Lyn, both her parents, and her older sister, Alicia Cornelia Goetz Schoch. She is survived by her twin sister, Erna Adriana Goetz Quade; brothers-in-law Dr. Dana Quade and Milton Ralph Schoch; sister-in-law Charlene (Cox) Grane; children Deborah (Ron) Mowery, Jeannine (Harold) Jordan, and Rev. Douglas (Monica) Cox; and grandchildren Peter (Laura) Mowery, Laura Mowery, Jim (Annie) Jordan, Irene Jordan, Kira Jordan, Audrey Jordan, Benjamin Cox, and Jeremiah Cox.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday May 16, 2014, 4 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 East Rosemary Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Durham, NC.

DURHAM — Mr. Duane Emerson, 47, passed away on April 9, 2014.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son Darius Emerson and daughter Desarae Emerson.
The family will receive friends Friday, 6pm – 8pm at Burthey Funeral Home, 1510 Fayetteville St. Durham, NC 27707.
His funeral service will be on Saturday at 4pm at New Red Mountain Baptist Church, 1401 Red Mountain Rd. Rougemont, NC 27572.
Vanessa L. Patterson
DURHAM — Vanessa L. Patterson, 58, departed her life on April 13, 2014. She leaves behind her husband, Thomas Patterson Sr.; three sons, Orlandas, Thomas Jr., and Justin Patterson; two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 2200 South Alston Ave., Durham NC on Thursday, April 17, 2014 visitation 12:00 noon with the service at 1:00 pm.
