Larry Bernard Anderson Sr.
DURHAM — Larry Bernard Anderson Sr., of 101 Jan Court, departed his life September 12, 2013. Larry was born in Durham NC. He is the son of Herman (deceased) and Isabel Anderson. 
He is survived by five children; three brothers; one sister; seven grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. He was a member of the Durham Community Trail Watch Program. He Retired from the UNC School of Government.
A moment of prayer will be held on Sunday, September 15th at 2 p.m., at the Tobacco bike trail at the intersection on Riddle Road. The Family will receive friends on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Scarborough & Hargett Funeral Home. Cremation was requested. There will not be a viewing. 

Dennis S. Hamlett
DURHAM - Mr. Dennis S. Hamlett, 64, joined our Heavenly Father Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Duke University Hospital. He was the son of the late Roy “Red” Hamlett and Ester Hamlett Houser. Mr. Hamlett was also predeceased by his wife, Monalisa Hamlett. Dennis was the owner of Tri City Signs.
He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Hamlett Terrell (Chuck); sons, Jason Hamlett (Gulmira), Micah Hamlett; grandchildren, Jordan and Zachary Walker, Hannah and John Daniel Hamlett; sisters, Rose Siler (Jim), Delores Biggs; brothers, Ricky Hamlett (Linda), Charles Hamlett (Jeanette); partner and best friend, Kay Diamond, who shared his final days of joy on this earth and never left his side; and her children, Nick, Alexis and Sophia Scarnecchia.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Pastor David Smith officiating. Burial will follow at South Granville Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 to 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home.

Melba Gunter Jones
DURHAM - Mrs. Melba Gunter Jones, 100, of Durham, departed this life on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 and went to be with the Lord.
Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Joseph Gunter and Edith Mims Gunter. Melba was an active member of Branson Memorial United Methodist Church for many years and, in recent years, belonged to Bethany United Methodist Church. Melba and her husband, Raymond, operated Jones Poultry Company in Durham for many years. Melba’s hobbies filled her days after retirement. She enjoyed painting and candle making, and she was active in church work. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lewis Jones; two brothers, Garland Gunter and Elmond Gunter; sister, Leta Browning and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Jones Ammons; her grandson, Geoffrey Niles Ammons; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Weaver will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., before the service at Hudson Funeral Home. Charles Barrett Mitchell
DURHAM - Charles Barrett Mitchell, 83, died Thursday September 12, 2013. He was born in Franklin County, son of the late Lydia Hazel Green Mitchell and Owen M. Mitchell. He was retired as a Senior Claims Adjuster with GMAC and was a veteran of the United States Army having served as a military police officer. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Wright Mitchell; a son, Timothy Charles Mitchell; a brother, Henry Carl Mitchell; and a sister, Jewel Mitchell Davis.
A funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, September 15, 2013 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Youngsville Town Cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by a daughter, Sherry Ann Whitfield and husband, Keith, of Durham; sons, Barry Dean Mitchell and wife, Caryl, of Tryon, Jeffrey Brian Mitchell and wife, Laurie, of Durham, Steven Charles Mitchell of Youngsville; a sister, Sarah Mitchell Lowery of Youngsville; brother, Fred Mitchell of Youngsville; grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell, Vlad Mitchell, Tim and Heather Whitfield, Nina Mitchell and Ashley Whitfield; great granddaughters, Rayne and Elizabeth Whitfield; grand dogs, Barney, Duke, Brownie, Ginger and Lola; best friend, Norris Porter.

Superintendent Lansing Bernard McClain
RAEFORD — Superintendent Lansing Bernard McClain, Navy Veteran, age 62, 202 Daisy Lane, Raeford, NC, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 8, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born January 31, 1951 to the late Mr. Theodore R. McClain and Mrs. Pearlie W. Price in Durham, NC.
He attended Hillside High School where he was a member of the band and played the trumpet. He then matriculated to Fayetteville State University where he received a BA in Political Science. He later attended Durham Technical Community College where he studied Criminal Justice. After his formal education, he joined the United States Navy and attended Naval Officer School. In June 1973, he began his first tour of duty as the Office of the Line. After leaving the US Navy, he began working at GTE where he proudly remained for the next 25 years. After retiring from GTE he worked at West Hoke Elementary School in Raeford, NC.
In 1987, he became an ordained Elder in the Church of God in Christ. He was ordained by the late Prelate Bishop L.B. Davenport and was a son in the Gospel under the Late Superintendent Benjamin H. Parker of the Greensboro District. Elder McClain became Superintendent of the Greensboro District after the demise of Superintendent Benjamin Parker and was serving in that capacity at the time of his death.
In 2008 he was appointed and served as the Jurisdictional Secretary under Bishop Leroy Jackson Woolard. He founded the Good Shepard Church of God in Christ, in Durham NC in 1988 and proudly served as their pastor for 25 years. Pastor McClain was appointed the Greensboro Superintendent in 1997 and he also served as the Secretary of the Superintendents Board of the Greater North Carolina Jurisdiction. 
Superintendent McClain leaves to cherish his beautiful memories a loving devoted wife of 35 years, Evangelist Doris D. McClain. He also leaves six children: Patrick L. McPhatter (Veronica) of Durham, Samantha Tammy McClain (Reginald) of Durham, Jessie Sabrina McClain of Sitka, AK, Doris Kim Bryan of Odenton, MD, Coleatha Johnson Cuffie (Wayne) of Durham, Kiera McClain of the home and one special son, Lansing (Jamont) McClain also of the home.
He also leaves one brother, Jimmie Lane of Durham, NC; and one sister, Naima Brenda Salahuddin of Durham, NC; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and four God children along with a host of brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service was held Friday, September 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Cape Fear Conference B Headquarters, 10225 Fayetteville Street, Raeford, NC 28376 (Public Viewing 10 to 11 a.m.)
Visitation was held Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home Chapel, 543 Vass Road, Raeford, NC. Burial: Highland Biblical Gardens, 601 Scott Currie Rd. Raeford, NC.
