Frances Stewart Carrigan
DURHAM — Frances Stewart Carrigan, 80, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014 at her home. She was born in Durham County to the late Hubert Stewart and the late Vivian Womack Stewart. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Stewart. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Mrs. Carrigan is survived by her husband, Edward “Bo” Carrigan; daughters, Pat Aiken, Paula Morris (Dale), Kelly Holmes (Mike), all of Durham; sister, Virginia Midgette of Durham; grandchildren, Brian McCormick, Brooke McCormick, Brent Morris, Blair Morris, Jordan Holmes, Grant Holmes, Stephen Holmes, Brad Holmes; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Morris, Peyton Morris and Harper McCormick.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Rev Earl Echols officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at Clements Funeral Home.

Evelyn Jean Smith Edwards
DURHAM — Ms. Evelyn Jean Smith Edwards, daughter of the late Lula Mae Smith Cotton and Coy Isler, was born on April 22, 1936 in Durham, North Carolina and at age 78 departed this life Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Brian Center of Durham. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Ms. Edwards' early years were spent in the Alston Avenue section of the city of Durham. She traveled to California, Florida, Maryland, Rhode Island and Hawaii as the spouse of a military man. She has many family, friends and colleagues who mourn her passing. She worked as a Medical Secretary at Duke Medical Center for 20 years and and the Durham Housing Authority for more than 10 years before her well-deserved retirement.
Her death came with peace and without pain.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 24, at Fisher Funeral Parlor at 3137 Fayetteville Street, Durham, NC 27707. Visitation with family begins at 1:30pm and the service starts at 2:00pm.

Delma Lou Gentry Holsonback
DURHAM — Mrs. Delma Lou Gentry Holsonback, 88, a former resident of Durham, died on Thursday, August 21, 2014.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Mr. Ira McCarson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Carlos Ramon Kelly
DURHAM — Mr. Carlos Ramon Kelly, 53, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at Duke Medical Center. His service will be held at 12pm on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Antioch Baptist Church, 1415 Holloway St. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday at the church from 11am-12pm one hour prior to the service. There is a public viewing at Burthey Funeral Chapel, 1510 Fayetteville St on Sunday from 1:30-7pm.

Laura Tilley Lassiter
DURHAM — Mrs. Laura Tilley Lassiter, 78, of Durham, died on Thursday, August 21, 2014.
Mrs. Lassiter was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late John H. Tilley and Bessie Davis Tilley. She retired after 22 years from the Durham Public Schools. She was of the Baptist faith and loved to sing and take food to and visit shut-ins.
She is survived by her two sons, Rev. Jack Lassiter and wife, Alane, and Tim J. Lassiter, all of Greenville; several nieces and nephews and her grand-puppy, Princess.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Living Waters Church, officiated by Rev. Ron Watts and Rev. Joshua Mickle. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m., before the service at Living Waters Church and other times at the home of Martha and Jim Winders, 3905 Cash Road. Almeade Gentry Garrett
ROXBORO — Almeade Gentry Garrett, age 90, of 1899 Virgilina Road died Friday, August 22, 2014, at Roxboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late Melville D. Gentry & Mable Claire Whitt Gentry. Mrs. Garrett is also preceded in death by her husband, William Elwood Garrett, and grandson, Matthew Garrett. She was retired from Steinthal. Mrs. Garrett was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Surviving are her two sons, Dr. William E. "Bill" Garrett, Jr. and wife Janice of Bahama; Dr. Stephen D. Garrett and wife Carla of Roxboro; one daughter, Bonnie G. Perkins and husband Richard of Roxboro; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was a small woman with a large character and great heart. She was the guiding influence on her family and instilled her values of hard work, devotion to family, good humor, and acceptance of responsibility. She was fortunate enough to lead a long, healthy life and exerted a strong influence on her many grandchildren just as she did with her children. She leaves strong and happy lasting memories to fill the void she will leave.
The family will receive friends 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Brooks & White Funeral Home, Inc. and other times at the home.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis McDonald and Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: David Garrett, Michael Garrett, Jonathan Garrett, Copeland Garrett, Caleb Garrett, John Perkins, Chris Perkins, and Richard Perkins.
