Lynn B. Frazier
DURHAM - Lynn B. Frazier, 49, departed his life on March 31, 2013.
He is survived by his mother, Edna M. Frazier of Oxford, NC; three brothers, Leon Burch, Jay Frazier and Otis Frazier; and a host of family and friends.
Services will be at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home on Friday at 2 p.m. with visitation at 1 p.m.
Theresa McQuaig Hopkins
DURHAM — Mrs. Theresa McQuaig Hopkins, 61, of 2308 Curtis St., died Saturday, March 30, 2013. Her service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Union Baptist Church, 904 N. Roxboro St., 27701, Rev. Kenneth R. Hammond officiating. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12 to 1 p.m., one hour prior to the service and all other times at 714 Wortley St.
Theresa is survived by her son, Robert Haggood; two sisters, Clementine Parker and Jonsie McLean; two brothers, David and Kelvin McQuaig; and numerous other family and friends who loved her very much.
Denise Olivia McMillan-Liles
DURHAM — Denise Olivia McMillan-Liles, 55, of Durham, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Duke University Medical Center. She was born May 23, 1957, the daughter of Cora J. McLeod and the late James F. McLeod.
Denise was employed by the Durham Public School system as a high school teacher for many years. She was then employed by Measurement Inc. until she became disabled in 2008. She completed her studies at Durham High School and her secondary education at North Carolina Central University.
She is survived by her husband, Michael A. Batts of Durham; two daughters, Karleshia Daye Jones and Krystal Daye, both of Durham; two brothers, George Green (Shirley) of Rochester, New York and James F. McLeod Jr. (Barbara) of Durham; four grandchildren, Kassan, Khalil, Kayla, Kaiden.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church at 1007 S. Roxboro St. Durham, NC 27707. Family hour will be held at 11 a.m., and the memorial will be held at 12 p.m.

Sumega Richmond Solomon
DURHAM - Mrs. Sumega Richmond Solomon, daughter of the late John Henry Richmond and Georgianna Carlton Richmond, was born Nov. 21, 1913 in Durham. She passed peacefully on April 1, 2013.
Sumega retired from the Ligett and Myers Tobacco Company after working 31 years as an inspector. She was a long time and faithful member of First Calvary Baptist Church and the Elks Salome Temple number 704 for over 50 years.
Cherishing her memory are son, retired USA Army officer, William Massey (Annette); one grandson, William Massey Jr.; niece, Delois Cook; nephew, Morris Richmond; Kelly Foster; Mary Brooks; and special neighbor and friend, Cynthia Williams.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 5, 2013 at First Calvary Baptist Church, 1311 Morehead Avenue. Services will start at 12 noon. Visitation will be an hour before service.

Edwin C. “Bunny” Wearing
DURHAM — Edwin C. “Bunny” Wearing, 68, departed this life unexpectedly on March 30, 2013 at Durham Regional Hospital. Mr. Wearing was born in Durham, NC to the late Henry Robert and Loreaster Holloway Wearing. He was retired from the Durham Public Schools. He leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Deborah L Wilson, Sandra D Ham; sons, Andrew Paulk, Kenneth Lunsford, Lamont Ross; his sister, Ms. Patricia A. Wearing and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 6, 2013 at 12 noon at Seedtime & Harvest Fellowship Church, 804 Berwyn Ave. 27704. Arrangements entrusted to Scarborough & Hargett Funeral Home.
Sharon Lynn Rupp
GRAHAM — Sharon Lynn Rupp of Graham, NC, was born September 3, 1946, in Portland, Oregon. She died March 27, 2013, in Graham, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Virginia Rupp of Portland, Oregon. She is survived by her brother, Michael; his wife, Leslie; her niece, Allyson; and nephew, Alexander Rupp of Salem, Oregon.
Sharon graduated in 1964 from Milwaukie High School in Milwaukie, Oregon.
She attended Springfield College in Springfield, Mass, where she graduated in 1968.
Sharon worked as an Assistant Dean of Students at the State University of New York in Fredonia, New York. She later returned to college and obtained a degree in nursing.
She accepted a position in the Ob/Gyn Department at the Duke University Medical School where she worked most of her career. She later obtained a Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of North Carolina in 1992. Recently, Sharon began working for the University of North Carolina Hospital where she was employed as a Utilization Review Nurse for the Department of Clinical Care Management.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Biscuit Foundation (a pet rescue service) in Burlington, North Carolina.

Harold Winston Gooch
WILTON — Harold Winston Gooch, 80, of Franklinton passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home. He was born in Granville County on November 1, 1932, the son of the late Edgar Newton Gooch and Lorine Henley Gooch. He graduated from Wilton High School in 1951, where he played baseball. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church where he served as deacon for many years.
Mr. Gooch was the owner and operator of Gooch’s Grocery for over 40 years and was always willing to help a neighbor or community member in need. He enjoyed rabbit hunting and was an avid baseball fan. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In his later years, his greatest passion was watching his grandchildren play ball. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m., today, April 4, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Christian Church by Rev. Don Owen. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gooch is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lucille Mitchell Gooch of the home; a daughter, Gail Gooch Bullock and her husband, Allen; a son, Eddie Harold Gooch and his wife, Dawn; four grandchildren, Jared Bullock, Joshua Bullock, Justin Bullock and Rusty Gooch; two sisters, Dorothy Gooch Pruitt and her husband, Leonard; Sue Gooch Bunn; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Gooch; and a brother, Robert Earl Gooch.

Edith Paisley Murphy
February 6, 1922- April 2, 2013
CHAPEL HILL — Edith Murphy, 91, of Chapel Hill, NC, died April 2, 2013. She was born in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, the daughter of Edgar Lee Paisley and Samullea Hash. Edith was a graduate of Lees-McRae College.
Edith was predeceased by her first husband, Kemp Battle Nye; and brothers, Paul and Robert Paisley. She is survived by one son, Kemp Battle Nye Jr.; sister, Dorothy Haynes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1968 Edith married Captain Douglas Murphy who predeceased her by a year.
Edith, a native Chapel Hillian, truly beloved by all, was an avid Tar Heel fan and a diehard yellow dog democrat.
There will be a visitation service Friday, April 5th from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at Walker’s Funeral Home, 120 West Franklin St. Chapel Hill, NC 27516 followed by the Funeral service in Walker’s F.H. Chapel at 3:00.

Melvin Lynn Simpson
ROUGEMONT — Melvin Lynn Simpson, 65, a lifetime resident of Person County passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home.
A native of Person County, the widower of Wilma Pennell Simpson and the son of the late Alvin Durant and Gladys Oakley Simpson, he was an Army Veteran, was of the Baptist faith, a former tobacco farmer and a retired construction foreman for Southern Industrial Contractors for 21 years.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Rev. Keith Williams and Rev. Gerald Thomas. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Miller Simpson of the home; a son, Michael Simpson (Rose) of Rougemont; two daughters, Tammy S. Williford (John Jr.) of Roxboro, Sandra L. Simpson of Roxboro; a step-daughter, Lynda G. Chambers of Roxboro; two sisters, Kaye Glasscock of Rougemont, Donnie Ann Horton of Timberlake; a brother, Alvin “Butch” Simpson of Rougemont; three grandchildren, Jonathan Williford, Brittany Williford, Sarah Williford; three step-grandchildren, Michael Currin, Chris Currin, Daniel Currin; and one step-great-grandchild, Cayden Currin.
