Olene Lord Crider
DURHAM — Mrs. Olene Lord Crider, 70, died peacefully Tuesday morning, April 2, 2013 at her home. Born in Douglas, GA, she was the daughter of the late Otis Monroe Lord and the late Hazel Kirkland Lord. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelors and Master’s Degree. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a school teacher with Durham Public Schools. She loved writing and took joy in reading her writing to others. She also enjoyed collecting fine furniture and antiques. Mrs. Crider was active in many social groups including Mt. Sylvan Seniors. 
Mrs. Crider is survived by a daughter, Amanda Leitzel and husband, Justin, of Durham; grandchildren, Will Leitzel and Jack Leitzel; a sister, Gail Rains; two nephews and a niece.
Funeral services will be held Friday 11 a.m. at Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stuart Milton officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Lynn B. Frazier
DURHAM - Lynn B. Frazier, 49, departed his life on March 31, 2013.
He is survived by his mother, Edna M. Frazier of Oxford, NC; three brothers, Leon Burch, Jay Frazier and Otis Frazier; and a host of family and friends. 
Services will be at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home on Friday at 2 p.m. with visitation at 1 p.m.

Michael Dwayne Huey
DURHAM - Michael Dwayne Huey, 48, departed his life on March 30, 2013.
He is survived by his parents, Rev. Albert & Dorothy L. Huey; sister, Michelle Hill, (Ben); son, Christopher D. Huey; a special niece, Madison; loving grandmother; and a host of special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at West Durham Baptist Church, 1901 Athens Street, Durham, NC on Thursday, at 1 p.m. with visitation at 11:30 a.m.

David Bryon Nickens
DURHAM — Mr. David Bryon Nickens, 60, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013 at his home. David was born in Lakewood County, NJ. He is preceded in death by his father, Philmore Nickens; and son, Kevin Nickens. Mr. Nickens was employed as a truck driver until his health failed.
Surviving are his wife, Taundra Love Nickens; mother, Allonious Nickens; daughter, Susan Nickens; step-daughter, Sierra Fellows; step-son, Jeffery Fellows; and brothers, Reggie, Geary and Keith Nickens.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Chapel Hill with Pastor Maythel Clemmons officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends, 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

John Gregory Watkins ("Bill")
DURHAM — Funeral services for Mr. John Gregory Watkins ("Bill") of Durham, NC will be conducted on Thursday at 1 p.m. from the Morehead Avenue Baptist Church, and the internment will follow in the Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor, NC. The family will meet with their friends one hour before the funeral services at the church. Survivors are four children, Mrs. Hazel Patricia Johnson (James), Ms. Pamela Jean Watkins, Mr. Gary Wayne (Sandra), Mr. Reginald Johnson (Joyce); eight grandchildren, six great grands, one sister, Mrs. Frances Kittrell; one brother, Mr. Jerry Watkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Harold Thomas Oakley Jr.
OXFORD — Harold Thomas Oakley Jr., 75, a longtime resident of Granville County, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Universal Healthcare in Oxford.
A native of Granville County, the son of the late Ernest Leonard and Lucille Puckett Oakley, he was a member of West Oxford Baptist Church and medically retired.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012 in Hester Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Wes Garner Jr.
Surviving are several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be held after the graveside service at the home of Pauline Capps.

Vallie Holden Gerdeman
HILLSBOROUGH – Mrs. Vallie Holden Gerdeman, 86, died Monday, April 1, 2013. She graduated from the Orange County Schools and retired from Burlington Industries. She was a member of Eno United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, Bob Gerdeman (Pat), Durham; one granddaughter, Ashley Morgan (Billy), Durham; one great granddaughter, Serenity Morgan; one great grandson, Bryce Gerdeman; and one sister, Peggy Crabtree, Hillsborough. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert B. Gerdeman Sr.; and her parents, Ada and Morris Holden.
The memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in Eno United Methodist Church.

ROXBORO — Hazel Fox Bowes, 88, of the Brian Center, died Monday, April 1, 2013.
Mrs. Bowes was born in Person county daughter of the late Monroe & Lula Bowes Fox. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Bowes; her son, Ricky Charles Bowes; her brothers, Eugene Fox, Flint Fox, Clem Fox, Morris Fox; and her sisters, Elebet Gentry, Mabel Parker, Esther Long, Hallie Gentry. She was a member of the Eastern Star & a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Jean Fox of Mebane; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces & great-great-nephews.
The family received friends 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Brooks & White Funeral Home. 
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. today, April 3, 2013 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Pam Watkins. Interment will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery.

Dennis Duncan Mangum Jr.
ROXBORO — Dennis Duncan Mangum Jr., 48, of 1542 Pine Ridge Dr., Roxboro, died Sunday, March 31. Born in Person County, Mr. Mangum was a carpenter and rock mason and of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Mangum is survived by his parents, Dennis Duncan and Sandy Mangum and Judy Whitlock and Dayton Evans, all of Roxboro; his brother, Don Mangum and wife, Christel, of Hurdle Mills; two step-sisters, Natalie and Greg Willis and Renee and Dwayne Wilocks, all of Maryville, TN.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Gerald Thomas. Burial will follow in Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m., today, at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.

ENFIELD, CT — Billy L. Champion, 77, of Enfield, CT loving husband of Mary A. (Buttacavoli) Champion passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
Billy was born November 15, 1935, in Durham, North Carolina the son of the late Elija J. and Alpha J. (Chappel) Champion. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and retired from Hallmark Cards in Enfield. In addition to his wife, Mary to whom he was married 56 years, he is also survived by a daughter, Mary Beth Lurye and her husband, Garth of Long Island, NY; a brother, James Champion and his wife, Maria of El Paso, TX; two sisters, Luan Yarboro and Mary Tolley, both of Durham, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Billy was predeceased by four brothers, Thomas, Henry, JN and Robert Earl Champion; and two sisters, Alice Kanas and Virginia Lunsford. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Friday, April 5, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, CT with a funeral service at 7 p.m.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. George Nick Pope
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — George Nick Pope, age 83, of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rebecca Pope; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Gary Matthews of Dacula, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Susan Pope of Suwanee, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Barry Russell of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Tyler Matthews, Drew Matthews, Erin Matthews, George Pope and Jillian Pope; sisters, Shirley Johnson of Lawrenceville, GA and Nena Carroll of Fitzgerald, GA; and his best friend of 80 years, Cecil Rigdon and his wife, Nell of Ocilla, GA; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. George is preceded in death by his parents, Nick George and Ella Mae (Ware) Pope; brothers, Nick Pope and Paul Pope.
George was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, he served in the US Navy and retired as an Engineer from GTE. The family will receive visitors today, April 3, 2013 starting at 3 p.m. followed by A Memorial Service Honoring the Life of George at 5 p.m. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. Deacon Nicholas Johnson will officiate.
